Sandstone Necrons: Phase 2 (Warhammer 40,000)

As regular readers will know, I have been working away away on my Necron army for Warhammer 40,000.  It’s been a lot of fun, and this is the best I’ve done with actually buckling down and getting some painting done in a very long time.  I previously completed Phase 1 of the army. This consisted of 37 miniatures, which made me really happy! Now, with Phase 2’s 46 miniatures complete, my total number of models for this army, and my painted miniature total for this year, is now at 83. I’m getting close to that goal of 100 miniatures that I set myself!

Now, I’ve put some pictures of the miniatures below. Because the bulk of this batch comes from a second Indomitus set, you’ll see a lot of overlap from the previous post. The Necron Warriors, Canoptek Scarabs, Skorpekh Destroyers, Cryptothralls, and the Canoptek Reanimator are all duplicates. These are the same sculpts as previously painted, but these are fresh photos of fresh paintjobs.

As before, the Canoptek Reanimator is the only model that is not quite finished.  I’ve gone and left the Space Marine bits on the base unpainted and will come back and paint them up when or if I decide on a colour scheme for my Space Marines from the Indomitus set.

The other slight issue is some areas that are a little shiny because of the glue that was used to attach the lichen to the miniatures. This will dull down fine once I take a spray varnish to them in the near future.

Again, I’m quite pleased with the results! As discussed, I’ve already been thinking about Phase 3. I’ve changed a few things since making that post. Most notably, I’ve removed the Silent King for now, until I get a chance to work out how I want cloth to be painted in my scheme. I’m considering bringing in a few extra character to replace him, namely the Ossiarch Bonereapers characters that I discuss in this post. Not only do I intend for one to be my “named” Overlord for my Dynasty, but this will also give me a chance to try my hand at some adding some cloth elements to my scheme. I also added another 15 Scarab Swarms, because I love Scarab Swarms!

I’d like to take a wee break from painting Necrons for a couple of weeks. In this time I will be building the next batch of necrons and maybe even painting something else! I have started the building:

One thing I need to paint is the Space Marines for my club’s Chapter Creation Contest. Beyond that, I’d like to do something else as well. I did say that last time and then did nothing, though…

We’ll see!
