After highlighting Humble Bundle’s Doctor Who RPG bundle the other day, I’m back with a very different offering from the same site. This time, it’s a bundle of audiobooks from Black Library, Games Workshop’s fiction publishing imprint.
Specifically, these are all Warhammer 40,000 audiobooks. Even more specifically, these are all novels that are set around the Indomitus Crusade, so these are all pretty recent books, coming from the 8th and 9th editions of Warhammer 40,000. That they are all so temporally close together in the setting is interesting, as you will get a really broad view of the current state of the Galaxy in the Warhammer 40,000 setting.
In total there are 21 items in this bundle at a minimum price of £15.54. For less than £1 per book, that’s pretty great. As usual, though, you can cut this back a bit, getting 6 items for £0.86 or 13 for £8.63.
Let’s take a look at what’s in there:

Most of the Black Library novels I listen to are Horus Heresy ones, so I’ve not read a huge number of these. There are a few that I enjoyed, though. Indomitus and Dark Imperium are both solid, especially Dark Imperium. Our Martyred lady is also really good, and has a surprisingly good cast, including Catherine Tate, for some reason. She plays Inquisitor Greyfax and does well in the role.
Probably my favourite of these books was Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work. I think that every group in this novel was presented well. We got a real insight into Cawl, but I also loved how the Necrons were shown. This is the novel that made me care about Felix and the Tetrarchs of Ultramar, as well. Yeah, I really liked this novel. It does a great job of giving Cawl actual depth, rather than just the bland answer to every problem that he appeared to be when he was first introduced. No more shall I demean him as “Deus Ex Cawl”!
Is it worth it? Yeah. There’s no question that this is an absolute steal. I imagine a lot of people grab their 40K fiction on Audible and this bundle represents 20 months (I’m not counting the Audio Sampler) of your single-book subscription. I suppose my only slight gripe – understandable though it is – is that this doesn’t integrate with your audible account. It would be awesome to see these just get added to your Audible library. As I said though, this is totally understandable.
Yeah, this is a really great bundle. Much value. Very story.
