Hobby Resolutions 2023

Having given it a wee bit of thought since my review of 2022, I’ve set some goals for 2023. I’ve kept things a little vaguer than in previous years, as I’m keen to give myself some freedom to paint miniatures that I just want to paint, rather than get into projects that I’m ultimately not that excited for.

I also want to encourage a bit more variety this year, both in my gaming, and in my painting, as well as how I write about games. Let’s dive in!

Painting

  1. Finish 3 army-sized Warhammer projects (~2,000 points).
  2. Finish 2 starting forces for smaller, non-GW games.
  3. Paint a Warhammer Underworlds Warband.
  4. Paint a Blood Bowl Team.
  5. Paint 6 miniatures unrelated to current projects.
  6. Paint 365 miniatures this year.

The painting goals are, as mentioned, to encourage a bit of reality. I finished 4 army projects this year, so I think that three is realistic this year, as well as giving me room for the other painting targets. I’m really keen to expand this year and do smaller projects to break up the year a bit and try to stop the burnout I hit one several occasions last year.

Gaming

  1. Play 40 different games.
  2. Play a new (to me) skirmish game.
  3. Play 3 non-D&D Roleplaying games

The gaming resolutions are there just to encourage me to engage with lots of different games, and to really embrace different aspects of the hobby. The goal of playing more non-D&D RPGs is really a longstanding one, but one I am very keen to follow through on. I could run these games, or I could just partake. Either way is good!

Writing

  1. Complete 12 book/game/media reviews.
  2. Release 3 titles on DriveThruRPG.

The blogging goals are particularly important to me, given that I’ve managed to maintain a nice streak with the blog over the past few months:

This feels really good, and I’m keen to keep it going. I don’t mind if I end up not posting every day, but I’d ultimately like to maintain posting most days.

Reviews are a lot of fun to write and I really love seeing them finished. They’re time-consuming, though. I’d like to average one a month over the next year. I’m happy for these to be a mix of products, tools, events, whatever. I just want to try to do more of them!

I also published my first item on DriveThruRPG this year and would like to expand on this in 2023. The next few items will likely be more Fiasco Playsets, but I’d love to expand and try something different, too.

I intend to do a monthly recap of where I stand on my resolutions. I’m looking forward to cracking on with these goals!
