Throwback Thursday: Thinkin’ About Playin’ Ghibli

Studio Ghibli is one of the most beloved and respected animation studios around. They have maintained pretty consistent quality and creativity across the movies. My favourite of their productions is probably Porco Rosso. It’s not the film that gets the most attention from Ghibli fans, but I just love it. I actually printed Marco when I first bought my FDM printer a few years back, and I painted him up:

The post I’m linking today was just a little musing on the idea of some Ghibli-themed board games. It was largely based around games that were already thematically similar to Ghibli titles. Kodama, for example, could easily be reskinned to more closely reflect Princess Mononoke, whilst Takenoko could be made to reflect My Neighbour Totoro. Of course, Broom Service was the prime example, being very thematically similar to Kiki’s Delivery Service:

There were some more thoughts on other games that may not resemble particular Studio Ghibli movies, but do fit the overall feel and aesthetic the company is known for. I like these sorts of posts, where I get to explore a particular theme or setting (as in the recently featured Discworld post) and you can click below to visit the original article:
