I’m still tinkering away with 3D printing, both for myself and for friends. The pritner is a really risky factor when it comes to the health of my pile of shame. It’s just so easy to queue up a cool print and set it off. Before long, you’ve printed most of an army…
With some recent stories about Bonesplitterz appearing on the blog, it should come as no surprise to anyone that they have made a recent appearance on my print bed as I peruse the modelsput out by Avatars of War. We stan Avatars of War on this blog. We really do…
Their Savage orcs (Orks? Orruks? Orqs?) are really nice. I printed up some characters:

Photos taken pre-cleanup, clearly.
Now, I know there’s not a boar-mounted boss in the army. I know. I made one anyway, largely after writing a wee story about one. Not everything has to be to directly useful in game, after all. It all a bit of fun, innit?
I also got a message from a friend looking for some prints. He’s keen to play the Stargate RPG and wanted some minis printed off for the purpose. He had the files, too:

The files were interesting. They printed off a bit better than I expected. I got the feeling that some of the sculpts didn’t really take into account the medium in which they would be printed. I had some problems with some elements of the Stargate itself, with some chevrons almost peeling away in places. Similarly, some of the staff weapons were a bit thin near the heads. Most came out okay, but I lost a couple of them. Strangely two of the minis had really bad ankles that kept breaking. I tried them a few times but kept getting the same result.
The majority printed off better than I expected though. The DHD was the best but of the whole package. The detail on that was fantastic and it printed off so well!
Next up was yet another model for the Flesh Eater Courts. This time it was the terrain piece; the Charnal Throne:

I printed this in three pieces. The Throne itself was the main piece. The stepped base was the second. Both of these came from Raging Heroes’ 3D printable miniature line, Heroes Infinite. They have an Arthurian Legends set that is absolutely gorgeous. If I expand the army later, I’ll likely mine this set for models. The final part was a flat base on the bottom. Someone created a cutout of the shape of the base of the Charnal Throne. It originally printed off at 1mm thick. This printed well but warped during curing. Reprinting at 3mm thickness sorted this issue.
Finally, there was also a batch of Mancrushers. I know I have already shared these, but they turned out so well that I wanted to share them again:

I finished basing them up and will take a rattlecan to them when I get a chance.
Next on the printer, I’m doing a second batch of Stargate minis and possibly some more orruks. Not in a rush for the Orruks though. Got plenty in the painting queue…
