It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases Urson Grimjarl for Necromunda – Forgeworld continue to pump out fantastic, individual models for the various specialist games under their remit. This is a lovely Squat for Necromunda:

I love the Votann range, but what I really like about the Necromunda Squats is the personality. They’re just more interesting, individual models. This does make sense, of course, because they are individuals, rather than stock models for an army. Still, gorgeous!
Army Painter to release new Fanatic paint range – Last time Army Painter rolled out a new paint range it was… bad. It was mishandled, and then complaints were downplayed. The Speedpaints were just bad. I’ve picked up a few of the Speedpaints 2.0 range though, and I like them a lot. It’s the metallics I use and I really like them. This new Fantastic range seems to have been more thought through, have more engagements from the community, and just will hopefully be a smoother, better rollout.

I don’t think I’ll be dropping £500+ on the complete set, but I’m really keen to pick up some colours and try them out. The coverage, from the previews I’ve seen, looks really good. I’m keen to read the reviews from people who haven’t been involved in the development, though.
Physical release of Wrath & Glory’s Threat Assessment: Xenos supplement on the way – I quite like the Wrath & Glory line. It seemed to get off to something of a bad start, but Cubicle 7 seems to have recovered and built it out into a good game with a good line of supplements. The latest of these supplements is Threat Assessment: Xenos:.

Unsurprisingly, this focuses on bringing alien (Xenos) species into the game. It covers most of the alien factions, but the most interesting ones for me are the forces of the Genestealer Cults. I like the idea of an insidious force that is spreading corruption within the Imperium. It opens up some cool opportunities for good storytelling. The Eldar are also always welcome! We previously featured this when the digital edition was first released, but now the physical copies are also hitting stores.

Patrick Todoroff’s new miniatures game, Nightwatch: Blood and Bone released on Wargames Vault – Matrick Todoroff is the creator of Zona Alfa, along with a number of other games. I’ve had the book for Zona Alfa for some time and I really need to get to it and actually play the damn thing. It looks a lot of fun. Now, Todoroff is putting out Nightwatch: Blood and Bone.

I’ve been following this game on Todoroff’s blog and am really keen to explore it. I think that my resolutions next year are going to focus a bit more on trying new skirmish games like this one.

Games Workshop releases new Battletome for Cities of Sigmar – Having previously only been available in the starter army set, the Cities of Sigmar Battletome is now available as a standalone product:

The book seems really good. Too good, perhaps? I’ve got some issues with the book, but I’d also quite like to do a Greywater Fastness army at some point…

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Spooktober/Orktober Competition Results @ Woehammer – The results of Woehammer’s October painting contest are in! Lots of great entries and a very worthy winner.
Necromunda is Kinda Janky, So Why Am I Still Playing? @ Grimdark Rainbow – This post effectively outlines part of my own hesitation into really jumping into Necromunda. In terms of rulebooks, it’s a bloated mess with lots of books, and not much clarity on what’s current. It seems to be constantly changing and it’s never been obvious when is a good time to jump in. That said, I’d like to do a gang next year!
The Clockwork Citadel – a one-shot for Fabula Ultima @ Burn After Reading – Fabula Ultima is a really interesting game that deserved its success at this year’s ENnie awards. When one of my favourite blogs does some coverage of it, you know I’m going to be all over that! This is a nice, succint post that outlines a one-shot adventure for the game.
Radiation by Moonlight: Quick Stalker done…with a glow in the dark twist! @ Not by Strength, By Guile – A nice, wee post about some glow in the dark resin crystals being used for basing. It’s a cool idea and it’s a nice way of bringing some supernatural elements to modern or near-modern soldier minis.
Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth Contrast Painting Guide @ Vincent Knotley’s Hobby Blog – First of all, the mini looks great. Second, it’s a good, concise, easy-to-follow guide on what paints to use. This is a really nice, wee post.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- My Resolutions Roundup for October

- Finished corpse and scrap tokens for Malifaux
- A load of finished status markers for Malifaux
- A Throwback Thursday about game expansions
I’ve been finishing off some minis, which I intend to share in the coming week. I’ve also been having a think about how I can fulfil my resolutions for 2023 in the short time we have left.
Catch y’all soon!
