It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them. I intend to review my progress monthly toward each of the resolutions. Welcome, then, to our roundup for June 2024. Let’s start with a reminder of the resolutions and where we got to in May:

So, how did June go?
Painting
I feel that we’re definitely back on track with the painting. Certainly, this is the first month in a while where I’ve averaged more than a model per day. That feels great!
In all, I completed 51 miniatures in May, starting with 10 Plague Censer Bearers:

These turned out pretty well! The prints were decent, and they were fun to paint. The fiddliest parts, really, were the bases.
I then moved on to catching up with some of my units for The Old World. I began with a pair of Engineers and 19 handgunners, intending to field two units of 10 with the Engineers as champions, but retaining the option for a unit of 20, too.

Again, I’m happy with these. I like the colour scheme that I’ve settled upon for this army. The green and white pop and the bases are pretty.
I then finished up 20 Infernal Guard with blunderbusses for the Chaos Dwarf army:

I’m still not super stoked about this colour scheme, but they look alright ranked up. It’s been fun putting this army together.
Bought: 2 minis
Printed: 15 minis
Painted: 51 minis
This is better! Plenty of painted miniatures, and putting some distance between my prints/purchases and my finished models. That gap is going to be damaged when the new AoS starter set comes out…
This means that my totals for the year so far are:
Purchased: 37 minis
Printed: 113 minis
Painted: 229 minis
The Slow Grow is finally where I want it to be, and I’m happy to be going into July with a solid plan. I don’t know what’s next. It will likely either be some Necrons or some Chaos Knights for 40K and some Flesh-Eater Courts for Age of Sigmar.
I’ve also decided to change one of my resolutions slightly. I had pledged to do 2 starting forces each for 2 skirmish games. I’ve decided to change that to miniature games, more generally. I just feel that I’ve shifted my focus to getting a pair of 1,000 point armies for The Old World. Hopefully, those armies will be finished next month!
Gaming
This month has been a decent month for gaming. I got play a lot of Age of Sigmar, which always an absolute treat. It should come as no surprise that this month’s Game of the Month goes to the outgoing edition of the game.
I got a few games to the table this month, with the highlight being several games of Everdell. I’m still really enjoying that game!
Here’s the list of games that I had played already this year, before the start of May:
- Century: Golem Edition
- Architects of the West Kingdom
- Sushi Go!
- Warhammer Underworlds
- Age of Sigmar: Soulbound
- Traveller
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Santorini
- King of Tokyo
- Ticket to Ride
- Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
- Ark Nova
- Arcane Academy
- Robot Quest Arena
- UNO
- Root
- Apiary
- Dixit
- In the Hall of the Mountain King
- Quadropolis
- 1960: The Making of the President
- Everdell
- Age of Fantasy
- Call of Cthulhu
- Raiders of the North Sea
I also added one more game to the played list in June:
- Scout
Scout was a lot of fun, and I picked up my own copy after trying it out. It’s such a simple little game that is both fun and infuriating. I’ve played a few times now and have yet to win.
Whilst there hasn’t been a big variety in my play this month, I’m delighted that Age of Sigmar got so much time. I love that game and it’s been a great month for it.
Writing
I’ve managed to maintain my goal of posting a blog post per day. I’m happy to be doing well on that front. As far as June goes, here are the highlights:
- A review of The Fold by Peter Clines
- A review of Terminus by Peter Clines
- Plans for month 5 of the Woehammer slow grow challenge
- Thinkin’ about Spearhead
- Looking at what Spearheads I can field
- Thoughts on collecting board games
- Looking at how to build Chaos Knight variants
- Tips for immersive roleplaying
- Game of the month
I really loved those Peter Clines books. The Threshold series is so much fun. I’ve been thinking a lot about doing my Chaos Knights. It’s a daunting project, and I’m anxious about it, but I am hoping it works out for me.
Still no progress on the ol’ DTRPG stuff…
