So, how did September go?
Painting
It’s been another quiet month. After quite a long dry spell, I picked up the paintbrushes to finish off some miniatures. First, I went with the Morbheg Knights that I needed to finish off my Flesh-Eater Courts Spearhead:

Really, I only needed 3 for that goal, but it made sense to just do a reinforced unit when I was at it. I’d like to do another 6 at some point. They’re already built and primed, but I want to do some other stuff first.
I then set to work on the one mini that I printed this month; my final C’tan miniature for my Necrons army:

I’m pretty happy with how she has turned out, and I’ve gotten pretty positive feedback on Discord and Reddit.
My final mini for the month was the first of my Malifaux horseymen. This is Death/The Dead Rider:

So, then, that gives us 8 painted miniatures for this month. There were no miniatures purchased this month, though I did print one. Our totals for the moment:
Bought: 0 minis
Printed: 1 minis
Painted: 8 minis
Not super productive, but at least the balance is in the right direction!
This means that my totals for the year so far are:
Purchased: 121 minis
Printed: 116 minis
Painted: 285 minis
The next things to be finished will hopefully be the rest of my Malifaux horseymen, probably starting with War/The Pale Rider. After that, I don’t know. I’m looking to do some different stuff.
Gaming
September has seen a fair amount of gaming but, like August, not very varied gaming. I’ve played a lot of Commander. It’s my most played game for the month, definitely.
Here’s the list of games that I had played already this year, before the start of August:
- Century: Golem Edition
- Architects of the West Kingdom
- Sushi Go!
- Warhammer Underworlds
- Age of Sigmar: Soulbound
- Traveller
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Santorini
- King of Tokyo
- Ticket to Ride
- Twilight Struggle
- Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
- Ark Nova
- Arcane Academy
- Robot Quest Arena
- UNO
- Root
- Apiary
- Dixit
- In the Hall of the Mountain King
- Quadropolis
- 1960: The Making of the President
- Everdell
- Age of Fantasy
- Call of Cthulhu
- Raiders of the North Sea
- Scout
- Warhammer 40,000
- Kluster
- Rummy
- Lorcana
- Flotsam Fight
- Twilight Struggle Red Sea: Conflict in the Horn of Africa
- Magic: the Gathering
- Eclipse
I added one new game to the list in September:
- Arcs
I got in a couple of games of AoS4. I’m still getting used to the changes, and I do think the armies I’ve tried have lost some of their fun, little features, but the edition does feel really good so far. In September I played with Maggotkin and Sons of Behemat. Sons were just last week, actually, and I had a lot of fun stomping some Stormcast:
It was a really close game! By the end of turn 3, we were still tied, but I managed to edge out a victory, largely by getting very lucky and shutting down Yndrasta before she could start murdering m’boys.
Everdell continues to be a regular visitor to the table, and it’s far from outstaying its welcome. I keep trying it with new people and new groups, and it’s just so easy to teach. Such fun!
Arcs was fun, but I need another game to really get my head around it. Century and Scout have been to the table a fair bit, too. Lorcana is seeing a lot of play at home. My wife really likes it (it’s her who originally picked it up) and I’ve built my first (very cheap!) deck, too.
And of course, I had a fantastic time with a series of Call of Cthulhu sessions. That’s why it became our game of the month!
Writing
I’ve managed to maintain my goal of posting a blog post per day. I’m happy to be doing well on that front. Reviews are going very well, too. I’ve loved doing book reviews, and some more board game reviews. Some highlights from this month’s blog content are:
- Some planning for my Ygra deck
- A review of the Disney Lorcana TCG
- A review of Jasper Fforde’s novel, The Eyre Affair
- A review of the movie, The Green Knight
- A politically-themed Magic Monday
- Celebrating 2 years of daily posts!
- A chance-based Magic Monday
- Thinking about RPGs in relation to a musical
- A review of the movie, Uglies
- A democracy-themed Magic Monday
- September’s Game of the Month
- Some thoughts on the recent updates to the Commander banlist
I’m enjoying the Magic Monday posts. They’re making me do more research and really learn a lot more about the game, the cards, and deck construction. Reviews have also kept up, though there have been fewer book reviews. I suppose the summer was a great time to read. I’ve got a book review sitting in my drafts that has been finished for a couple of weeks, but I keep pushing it back to fit in other things.
No progress on the DTRPG stuff. That’s not going to happen this year.
