5 on Friday 19/09/25

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a launch box for the new Age of Sigmar army, the Helsmiths of Hashut – Chorfs! It’s great to see these new Chaos Dwarfs make their way into the Mortal Realms!

This is a lovely army set and a fantastic little Spearhead. The infantry look great, as does the bull dreadnought thing. I swithered over grabbing a box, but ended up leaving it, reckoning that I had enough projects on the go. Gorgeous and tempting, though!

Fantasy Flight releases Thunder’s Edge, a Twilight Imperium expansion – Twilight Imperium is fantastic. I’ve not actually played my copy of TI4, though I did play my TI3 a few times. Here’s a new TI4 expansion:

Thunder’s Edge is TI4 at its most audacious, stuffed with new factions, mechanics, and a modular planet that reshapes the galaxy mid-game. It’s a premium-priced expansion, but the sheer volume of content is staggering.

Steam Forged Games to release a core book for Warmachine – As much as I did not fully trust Steam Forged Games when they took over Warmachine, I think they might be proving me wrong. In my defence, I only based that opinion on their entire track record as a company to date. Still, I’m delighted that they do seem to be doing well with Warmachine.

It’s a 140+ page hardcover packed with rules, lore, and faction deep-dives. It’s the Iron Kingdoms in full colour and back finally in print… and hopefully well worth the shelf space.

Stonemaier releases Dragon Academy expansion for Wyrmspan – Dragon Academy expands Wyrmspan with new dragons, caves, guilds, and a training system that rewards clever sequencing. It’s a dracologist’s dream, complete with more combos, more choices, more fire.

Inside: 80 dragon cards, 25 caves, 5 guild tiles, and a new round tracker that adds income decisions when passing. It’s a smart, content-rich box that fits snugly in the core game, promising to deepen every play.

MTG’s Spider-Man set to release next week – Marvel’s Spider-Man Universes Beyond set webs into Magic pretty imminently as a full-sized set. It brings Spider-Man, Venom, the Green Goblin, and New York City flair to every format.

Inside: new keywords, art from legends such as John Romita Sr. and Todd McFarlane; and a special “Through the Omenpaths” digital treatment for Arena, since the Marvel sets won’t appear natively online.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Top Three AOS Lists for The Northern Wastes GT @ Woehammer I’m building that Slaves list. That’s what I’m working towards. I’d like it to be finished by mid-November at the latest.

Big Groups, Small Games @ Cannibal Halfling Gaming This post dives deep into the tension between player count and narrative focus, using DIE and Apocalypse World to explore why some RPGs thrive with fewer players. With a proposed eight-player scenario and reflections on LARP scale, it’s a thoughtful piece on spotlight, structure, and story design.

Who needs Victory Points? @ Overthinking Warcry The author proposes a bold alternative to traditional VP systems with “Chaos Scoring,” a multi-track format that rewards kills, survival, treasures, and objectives across an entire event. It’s a fresh lens on faction balance, midrange viability, and how scoring can shape playstyles and tournament culture..

Warfleets Fighters @ A loft full of lead Just some cool lil’ ships. A space-based naval game of that sort of scale is one I’m keen to try. There are a few such systems I’ve looked at. Maybe one for next year..

Fabricator’s Lair 3D Prints- Epic Sector: Industry – “Horton Spheres” @ Azazel’s Bitz Box Having recently picked up Adeptus Titanicus, I’ve gone from just admiring Azazel’s suitably-scaled terrain; I’ve come to covet it. It all looks great. I’ll need to find some similar stuff, myself.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:

I finished up 9 miniatures this week, meaning we can go ahead and update our totals for the year so far:

Catch you next week!
