Last week, I wrote about the challenges involved in balancing a free exchange of ideas and views, whilst maintaining a functioning, safe, and respectful gaming club. Those were the thoughts in mind when we looked, the other month, at putting together a new code of conduct. We decided to keep it brief, to the point, and simple. Accessibility is important. I think we wrote some reasonable rules that shouldn’t be overly constraining or cumbersome, but do encourage some accountability. Here’s what we ended up with:

Our Mission:
To foster a fun, inclusive, and respectful community where players of all experience levels can enjoy tabletop games—whether you’re rolling dice, flipping cards, or moving miniatures across the battlefield.
- Respect Everyone at the Table.
- Treat fellow players, organisers, and guests with kindness and courtesy. Discrimination, harassment, or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.
- Play Fair, Play Fun.
- Games are meant to be enjoyable for all. Be a gracious winner and a good sport when you lose. Respect begets respect.
- Consent and Comfort in RPGs.
- Always check in with your group about themes and boundaries. Use safety tools like the X-card or Lines & Veils when appropriate.
- Respect the Space and Equipment.
- Treat club property, terrain, and other players’ belongings with care. Do not touch other players’ miniatures without express permission. Clean up after yourself and help maintain a tidy, welcoming environment.
- Support Newcomers.
- Be patient and encouraging with new players. Offer help, not criticism; everyone starts somewhere.
- We Are a Venue, Not a Service.
- Our space hosts gaming opportunities, but we don’t run games on demand. No member owes a game to another. It’s up to you to organise games using our Planning Games channel on Discord.
- Keep It Friendly.
- Aggressive, disruptive, or toxic behaviour isn’t welcome. If there’s a disagreement, resolve it respectfully, or ask for a neutral hand to step in.
- Respect Event Structure.
- Be punctual, follow agreed rules, and let your group know if you’re dropping out. We value everyone’s time and effort.
- Speak Up.
- If you see or experience behaviour that conflicts with this code, please reach out to a club organiser. We’re committed to listening and acting appropriately.
