5 on Friday 03/10/25

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a new Drukhari codex – A savage refresh for the Dark Eldar brings updated army rules, new and revised datasheets, and a tightened Power From Pain that reshapes how the faction generates and spends resources on the tabletop.

In the book, we’re looking at updated datasheets, five Detachments, Combat Patrol and narrative Crusade rules, expanded lore and art, plus a one‑use app code for the army builder app.

Chubby Funster releases ShadowCity: Blood and Neon as PDF and Print-on-Demand on DTRPG – A gothic‑punk, Shadowdark‑inspired vampire RPG that landed as a Kickstarter and now appears on DriveThruRPG, pitched as fast, noir action with heavy atmosphere and instant‑play hooks.

This is a compact Chronicle‑style book focused on vampiric survival in a neon metropolis. We’re talkin’ scenario seeds, NPCs, and rules tweaks to lean into personal horror and street‑level intrigue.

Mantic releases Axel Tricklebrook Company Box for Kings of War: Champions – Axel Tricklebrook stars as a resin hero leading a new company for Kings of War: Champions, bringing water‑themed units and a tidy, ready‑to‑play force for the rank‑and‑flank game:

Inside the box, we’re looking at 22 miniatures, including 1 MasterCraft Axel, 10 Naiads, 10 Riverguard, and 1 Dambuster. There are also unit reference cards and an assembly guide. This is packaged as a self‑contained company box for instant play or hobbying up a themed force.

Cubicle 7 releases Champions of Chaos book for Age of Sigmar: Soulbound – A dark spin on Soulbound! This standalone Champions of Chaos corebook flips the heroic tone, letting players pursue favour, mutations, and daemonic boons as servants of the Ruinous Powers rather than defenders of the Mortal Realms.

This is a full, standalone rulebook focused on the Bloodwind Spoils setting, new mechanics for divine favour and mutation, and tools tailored to chaotic playstyles; it replaces Soulfire with per‑character resources and leans into chaos‑flavoured narrative and rewards.

Stonemaier releases their new edition of Tokaido Duo – Stonemaier’s new version of Tokaido Duo is a compact, 1–2 player reissue of Antoine Bauza’s serene trek game with accessibility tweaks, a new Automa solo mode, and reorganised player guides to make teaching and solo play smoother.

Although there have been some clarifications and a nice, Stonemaier layer of polish, this is the same gentle gameplay that we know and love. The new components include panorama cards, character guides, a linen‑finish rulebook, Automa solo content included (or sold separately for existing owners), and small quality‑of‑life changes like clearer iconography and a redesigned score track; release and distribution were staged through Stonemaier webstores in 2025 with retail follow‑ups.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

September 2025 Gaming @ Dude! Take Your Turn! My favourite game from this selection is Shipwrights of the North Sea. I think I like it a lot more than the author of this post does! Maybe it’s because it’s the one Garphill game that I seem to consistently win

From Camelot To Whitechapel: Two Chaosium Referee Guides @ Refereeing and Reflection This deep dive into Chaosium’s referee volumes is vivid, knowledgeable, and genuinely useful for GMs. It praises the Gamemaster’s Handbook for filling Pendragon’s support gaps with practical systems for battles, courtly play, and campaign scale, and it celebrates the Keepers’ Guide for Cthulhu By Gaslight’s rich referee material, historical detail, and scenario-ready resources. Read this if you run Pendragon or Victorian Call of Cthulhu and want concrete, usable guidance rather than only lore.

September 2025 retrospective @ Spalanz Print & Play, Legion, MCP, Necromunda. A good month, by the look of it!

Daily Commander: Zidane, Tantalus Thief @ J.M. Casual Blog Final Fantasy IX, you say? Stealing stuff, you say? I’ll take two scoops of that! A fun deck tech for m’boi, Zidane.

Wargame Forge 3D Prints: Gothic Buildings – Ruined Gothic Cathedral – GR029 @ Azazel’s Bitz Box These are really nice prints, and are beautifully painted, too. I especially love the colour chosen for the roof. Lovely and vibrant!
