5 on Friday 27/03/26

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Asmodee to release Zip! edition of Catan – Catan is a game that I still appreciate, but I don’t really reach for it any more. There’s no denying that it’s a classic, but it does feel somewhat dated. I can understand why it’s still popular, though. And it’s clearly still popular enough for new variants to be released.

This is a smaller edition of the game intended as a travel set. It’s a cool idea. I like some other travel editions of games, like Hive. Is there a market for this? I guess someone thinks so.

Logan Laidlaw releases Somnus Domina: Blade, Bone, & Benefit for 5E – Blade, Bone, & Benefit compiles Nat19’s three hit splash books into a single, massive 5E expansion, packing Somnus Domina’s JRPG‑inspired world with a new class, dozens of subclasses, races, spells, items, and a bestiary of gods, machines, and monsters. It’s a dense, stylish toolkit built for tables that want high‑impact character options and rich, myth‑touched worldbuilding.

With 280 pages of fortune‑twisting powers, dark‑god lore, transhumanist themes, and reverse‑compatible mechanics, this compendium turns Somnus Domina into a full character‑creation and campaign engine, offering players and GMs everything from the Blood Minister class to 61 NPCs, 81 subraces, and a trove of spells, artifacts, and planar secrets. It’s 5E dialled toward style, ambition, and mechanical bite.

Chaosium to release a Horror on the Orient Express board game – Chaosium’s Horror on the Orient Express board game brings the classic campaign into a focused, table‑ready format, turning its slow‑burn dread and cross‑continental investigation into a cooperative experience built around tension, resource pressure, and the creeping sense that the train itself is running out of safe places. It’s a smart adaptation that respects the original without trying to replicate it beat‑for‑beat.

Originally funded via Kickstarter, it seems to be making its way into retail channels. It lands as a polished, accessible entry point into Mythos horror; a contained, replayable journey that aims to capture the campaign’s atmosphere while giving players a tighter, more deliberate way to experience the descent.

Adamant Entertainment releases Thrilling Tales 3rd Edition – Thrilling Tales is a tabletop roleplaying game system designed to emulate 1930s-40s pulp magazine action, cliffhanger serials, and adventure. It features Nazi-punching action, two-fisted heroes, and mad scientists. Here comes third edition:

Until other books are updated for the new edition, it should be noted that the game is compatible with other content from the D6 System. A print-on-demand option will also be available within a few weeks for those who prefer their books on dead tree.

BANDAI is taking preorders on Gundam Assemble Starter Set 01 (ST01) – Oh, this is a big release! I’ve got folk at club who will be all over this. The Gundam Assemble Starter Set 01 (ST01) is the perfect on‑ramp into Bandai’s new tactical minis game, pairing iconic mobile suits with streamlined rules and everything two players need to hit the table fast. It’s a tight, accessible launch box that shows off the system’s fast turns, crisp sculpts, and classic Universal Century flavour.

With pre‑assembled units, scenario play, and a ruleset built for quick, decisive skirmishes, ST01 delivers a complete head‑to‑head experience straight out of the box. It’s a sharp starter for anyone wanting to dive into Gundam tabletop battles without a huge amount of hobby overhead.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

February 2026 Monthly Round-Up @ Azazel’s Bitz Box Lots of great Star Wars minis this month. I love the Ewoks and Thrawn in particular!

Discover TableTone: The Ultimate Soundboard for Game Masters @ Churape’s Dungeon and Stuff A very interesting product, this. A pretty detailed review, as well. Definitely worth a look.

Daemonslayer – William King @ Wordaholicanonymous Whilst Demonslayer is a classic Warhammer novel, I do agree with the reviewer’s score and the reasoning for it. It’s a good book, but it just feels like certain plotlines are left unfinished or unresolved.

Rubber Band Man, Wild as a Goliath Brute @ Scrubs Against the Meta A good idea. I’ve actually seen other folk use bands like these in games like Blood Bowl to show particular skills and rules. It would definitely work well in other games.

Top Three AoS Lists for the La Rata Dorada GT (The Golden Rat GT) @ Woehammer There are some fun lists here. I’m not sure I necessarily want to field a whole bunch of dragons with my FEC… but then again… hmmm.
