It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases a new Stormcast Eternals battletome for Age of Sigmar – The Stormcast have come a long way. Games Workshop released them with the original Age of Sigmar starter set and I found them thoroughly, thoroughly uninspiring. They’ve improved hugely since then, and I actually really like where they are. Now, we’re getting their new battletome for the 4th edition of AoS:

This is one of the bigger battletomes, largely because of how much the Stormcast range has grown. This is largely due to them getting a big release with the advent of each new edition of the game. The stuff that’s come out with this edition is absolutely stunning.

Free League releases their new RPG, The Electric State – Following on from Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood, The Electric State is the third RPG that Free League has produced based on the works of Simon Stålenhag:

Based on the Year Zero system, The Electric State is set in the late 90s and sees the players take on the roles of a group of travelers crossing America. It’s not our America, though. This is a retrofuturistic dystopia, and the game is all about exploring the ruins of this society. I’m really digging the vibe.

Atomic Mass Games releases a Rebel Sleeper Cell unit for Star Wars: Legion – It’s rare that I really love a set of Legion miniatures. The game always feels a bit flat to me. I do really like these rebels, though:

I love that this is less of a regiment of similar troopers and more of an ensemble of characters. Realistically, I’m not going to play Legion, but I could totally see myself picking these guys up to use in other games, such as Rogue Stars or Stargrave.

R. Talsorian Games releases Tales of the RED: Hope Reborn, a new campaign book for Cyberpunk RED – With how well-received the newest edition of Cyberpunk was, I’m surprised with how little development the game line has had. There just haven’t been many books, despite Cyberpunk RED having come out in 2020. Now, we’re seeing the release of the first full campaign book:

It seems like it’s going to be pretty solid. The story is based around a bar, The Forlorn Hope, which is in trouble. Save it! This campaign consists of 6 scenbarios, covering a range of different play types. I find campaigns and adventures from the original publishers of a game to be quite interesting, as they often give a good indication of the intended style and tone of the game. Whilst this feels late, it seems interesting.

Modiphius launches a Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming Discworld RPG – I’m a massive Pratchett fan. I’m going home next week to visit family, and on my desk in my childhood bedroom is a picture of me meeting the great man. To have Modiphius put out a new RPG based on this world is just amazing.

Needless to say, I will be backing this. I am excited for this. The video for it actually made me tear up a little; but I am a notorious sap. There must be a lot of pressure on Modiphius to do right by such a beloved property, and the fact that they decided not to use their in-house RPG system, 2D20, tells you that they’re really pushing for something unique.
Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Realm of Chaos – Citadel Brayherd Beastmen Ungors: Completed (Alan Perry,1997-8) @ Azazel’s Bitz Box – Classic minis! I love these old beastmen minis, and could see loads of potential uses for them. It’s always great to see old models with new new live breathed into them. Great job; thanks for sharing!
Mind your track! @ J’ai un planning chargé – These scrappy tanks look amazing. I’d love to get some Turnip28 or Forbidden Psalm onto the table next year, and it’s stuff like this that really whets the appetite. They just look so good, both in the conversions and the subsequent paint jobs.
Dungeons and Dragons 2024 Player’s Handbook Review @ Storyscribe – This is the first review of the edition of D&D that I’ve read. it’s no secret that the ubiquity of D&D in our hobby space makes me a bit sad, but I am glad that the new PHB seems promising. The reorganisation seems to be a big plus, and I really like that the opening teaches you to play the game. That’s cool.
A Bitter Harvest: Fred Reed’s Old School Howling Griffons Space Marines Army @ Classic Warhammer 40K – What a beautiful, vibrant army. I always loved seeing people’s interesting armies in White Dwarf. This one is an absolute classic, and looks amazing.
Spearhead Hobby Challenge: The Final Results Are In! @ Plastic Craic – I previously wrote about taking part in the Plastic Craic Spearhead Hobby Challenge, and I also submitted my complex Flesh-Eater Courts Spearhead to our club’s hobby challenge. The eventual winners have been announced and they are deserving winners. There were a lot of good entries, and it’s great to see what everyone’s been up to.
