It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls we have decided to give you a little digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
They are in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Dominion: Empires @ What’s Eric Playing? – A great review of this new Dominion expansion. As a huge fan of the game that started the deckbuilding craze, I was keen to read about the Empires expansion and Eric covers it really well in his post. I also really like his final section of not only Pros and Cons, but also ‘Mehs’ – it’s a good approach that I’m tempted to use, myself!
Bonesplitterz Complete! @ A Tabletop Gamer’s Diary – A newly completed Age of Sigmar army! It’s a lovely, well-painted band of Savage Orcs. I especially love the boar riders!
10 things board games taught me in 2016 @ Curio – An insightful end-of-year article that raises some interesting ideas. I particularly agree with points 2 (regarding Kickstarter hype) and 4 (regarding the indispensability of a regular gaming group).
Best Week 2016, Iterated! @ Space-Biff – A look at the year’s best iterative games – games that put a slight spin on old ideas and make them fresh again. Some games on the list, I had not heard of, others (Cry Havoc) I was vaguely aware of and another (Secret Hitler) I am desperate to play! I’m also very excited to try out the game that occupies the number 1 slot in this list of 8, as it’s sitting firmly in my to-play pile, after I picked it up on release (rare for me – so enthused was I).
The Board Game Revolution @ The Student Story Teller – This is a short article, or rather, a concise one about why board games should be played more often. The article highlights just three points, but they are so fundamental and important that it’s enough. A really strong, well-worded article which rings true for me. Well put, friend.
See you in the new year!
