5 on Friday

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for a little digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week.  Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

They are in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

[painting corner] Batman Miniatures Game 2nd Ed @ Darker Days Radio – This is the first time I’ve seen the new, 2nd edition starters for the Batman Miniatures Game.  They’re pretty cool, and this is a game I’ve always really liked the look of.  It’s cool to see these models painted up in a post with lots of great photos which take the models from new in box, through work in progress and all the way to complete.

Should We Be Playing at War? @ Dude! Take Your Turn! – This is an interesting article.  The author makes a lot of interesting observations regarding the idea of playing war games, given the very real impact that has had and that it continues to have across the world.  It’s something I’ve thought about myself, particularly in games such as Labyrinth: War on Terror and A Distant Plain which are very recent in their chronological settings.  A very good article with lots of food for thought.

Thurso in Scotland, the town where I enjoyed tea, shortbread and amazing long lasting sunsets! @ applesandsea – A lovely wee article by someone who recently visited Caithness.  The county is a fantastic place, but we’re quite remote and often forgotten about, so it’s always nice to hear when someone has discovered and enjoyed it.  Local flavour, this one.

Playing Around: The Library Pot @ Bits & Pieces – A review of a new board game cafe in London.  These establishments are great places, though I’ve been to many myself – just one in Oxford (which was excellent), one in Edinburgh (which was not) and my favourite store in Stirling puts on good coffee and food.  The place sounds pretty cool and I hope they can sustain themselves long-term.

To Oppress and Subjugate: CA Battle Report @ Of Thoughts and Swords – I don’t read many written battle reports.  They’re generally not my thing.  That said, this one caught my attention for the sheer, massive amount of great, colourful pictures it includes.  Really nice Infinity report, and a beautiful, colourful post.  Good stuff!

On No Rerolls this week, I’ve written a bit about playing games with my wife, and how that’s come around.

See you next week!
