The Eyre Affair was the debut novel of Jasper Fforde, an author I have loved since that book was first published in 2001. Fforde has published a range of novels over the years and has launched a few distinct series. He is best known, however, for his Thursday Next series. That makes this Throwback Thursday very on-brand!

The series follows SpecOps (later Jurisfiction) agent Thursday Next as she solves crime in both the real world, and the world of fiction. I explain what these organisations actually are in the original post. The series is set in an alternative version of the UK that is both ridiculous and relatable.
In addition to exploring the setting, I also make some suggestions for RPG systems that you could use to play in it. This is pretty similar to what I did for another setting, featured in another recent Throwback Thursday:
It should come as no surprise to any regular readers that I recommend FATE and Fiasco. I always recommend FATE and Fiasco. I do make other recommendations though! I’d predictable, but I’m not quite that boring.
My biggest complaint about this post is that it’s labelled as Part 1, but there’s never been a part 2. Or a part 3. I could probably squeeze a part 4 out of Fforde as well. He is just so good at world building. You just want to jump in and play! I’ll need to get onto that…
