So, this one’s a bit different. Normally, the Kickstarter campaigns I look at are more directly related to games, geekery, and the like. This one is more of a curiosity. The creators, ATLAS 3DSS, have been around for a while and mostly work with creators to add effective supports to their STL files. They’ve previously done some Kickstarter campaigns for typical fantasy-style miniatures, but now they’re branching out into something quite different.
This is a 3D-printable model of the Maeklong Railway Market in Thailand. I hadn’t heard of this market before, but after seeing the project, I did a wee bit of research and it’s really interesting. Here’s a short video showing the Maeklong Railway Market:
ATLAS has pulled together a really cool 3D model to represent a small stretch of the market, and it appears to be really bursting with detail. There’s loads here, with the tracks and train, the surrounding buildings, and the market stalls themselves. There’s even loads of little bits of produce!
Here’s a wee selection of images showing some of the detail:

It’s cool, innit?
There’s not a huge amount to say here, as this is just a very specific thing. You could use it as terrain or whatever for skirmish games, but really it’s a scale model. That’s fine.
So what about cost?
Well, there appear to be time-limited early bird pledge levels that expire in a few days. At the moment, the all-in pledge for the whole set is $50. In real money, that’s about £42. Consisting of digital files, the pledge does not need shipped, so there are no extra fees in that regard. I suppose that for what it is, that’s not a bad deal for this interesting, though very specific project.
