This post was quite prescient. Back in 2018, I shared some thoughts on playing RPGs online, versus in-person. My answer then was ultimately the same as it is now; in-person is simply the better experience.
That said, We then spent over a year in and out of lockdowns and were unable to meet in groups. Online became the standard, and I became a lot more accepting of the approach. It’s interesting to look back on what I was saying about online play before I was forced to embrace online play.
