Onyx Path has largely built its reputation with the continuation of the World of Darkness at a time when White Wolf didn’t seem particularly interested in releasing anything for it. Since the latest edition of Vampire, Onyx Path has walked an interesting line, releasing material for the new edition whilst also maintaining their 20th Anniversary and Chronicles of Darkness releases. Also Exalted. That’s still a thing, too.
Pugmire is one of their original titles. The previous edition was based on 5E D&D, as many RPGs are. Now, there’s a Kickstarter on the go for a new edition of the game.

For the uninitiated, Pugmire is the story of the world after man. We are gone and the dogs have inherited the world, building a society, going on adventures, picking through the remains of those came before. As the game tells us:
“Be a good dog. Protect your home. Be loyal to those who are true. These are the words of the Code of Man.”
Dogs have advanced to use tools and language. Scavenged technology is treated as magic. Your goal is to explore, protect your community, and to to be a good dog.
Ultimately, the new game seems to still be based on 5E D&D, but with further unique refinements to really make this game more of its own thing. It already felt simpler and more streamlined than 5E, so it will be interesting to see what they do with it. Eddy has already started posting Design Blogs about this.
The campaign has a number of different things on offer, but the core of it is, of course, the rulebook:
.

The book will come in a few different forms. Backers will get manuscripts to acts as previews of the finished game. There’s then a few different tiers that offer combinations of PDF, print editions, and limited editions:

The prices seem reasonable, especially given that you’re getting both the PDF and Print for the $55 pledge level. The quality, I am convinced, will be top notch. The previous book was great. I like Eddy’s work. The new art in the campaign looks fantastic. Onyx Path just produce good books. It is known.
The difficulty in recommending this book for my fellow UK peeps comes in the shipping. I have never backed an Onyx Path game on Kickstarter because the shipping is always insane, often doubling the cost. I get that this is not necessarily within their control, but it’s still prohibitive to me. For UK shipping, Onyx Path is predicting $50.00 USD +$20.00 USD per additional book. Yeah… As much as i really want to support Onyx Path, Eddy, and this project, I’ll pick it up at retail.
