Humble Bundle: Pathfinder

There’s a wise observation, often applied to print media, that seems apt here. It is the observation that, when faced with a headline that contains a question, they answer is most often ‘no’. With that in mind, I present unto you, dear friends, the “So You Wanna Try Out Pathfinder?” bundle.

I don’t.

Just to be clear.

That said, I can appreciate that lots of other folk do want to try out Pathfinder, particularly in the aftermath of all the recent corproate nonsense from Wizards of the Coast.

So, is this a good bundle to jump in with? And hey, given the couple of bad bundles we’ve seen recently from Humble Bundle, is this a good bundle, period? Not being headlines, I am free, able, and willing to answer yes to both of those quetions.

As usual, the top tier of the bundle is just fantastic. It’ll cost you £20.23 and net you 28 items. These items are shown below:

Now, this contains a lot of content. You’ve got the core rules, lots of adventures, lots of minor supplements, a couple of bestiaries (woo!) and more.

Honestly, a lot of the content here is a wee bit underwheling, with character sheets, pawn collections, digital versions of flip mats, and the like taking up 10 of the 28 items. Many of the remaining ones are smaller supplements. This, therefore, shouldn’t be looked upon as anything approaching a complete collection, but it does have a good core to it.

This core includes the core rules, a GM guide, and 2 bestiaries. What’s really great, and what sets this apart as a good, well-constructed bundle, is that the core rulebook and the first bestiary are also included in the lowes tier of this bundle, costing just £4.04. The lack of an actual, usable entry-level tier is a real issue for me with some of the bundles from Humble Bundle, so I’m glad to see this is not an issue here.

In terms of recommendations, I’d definitely consider both the full bundle and the first tier. The first tier gives you a really cheap entry points into Pathfinder, and the full bundle adds a lot of content to that, mainly for the benefits of a budding, would-be GM. The middle tier doesn’t really satisfy me. I’d be going cheap, or I’d be going all in, for all the difference in cost.

Yeah, I don’t think Pathfinder is for me, but if it’s something you’re interested in, this is a great chance to jump in!

  1. I have heard many anecdotal tales of shops being unable to keep Pathfinder books in stock over the past few weeks. This seems like very good timing!
