Resolutions 2023: February Roundup

It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them. I intend to review my progress monthly towards each of the resolutions. Welcome, then, to our roundup for February 2023. I feel that I’ve made a bit less progress overall this month. Let’s start with a reminder of the resolutions:

Painting

Finish 3 army-sized Warhammer projects (~2,000 points). (Jan Status: small progress)
Finish 2 starting forces for smaller, non-GW games. (Jan Status: 1/2 complete)
Paint a Warhammer Underworlds Warband. (Jan Status: no progress)
Paint a Blood Bowl Team. (Jan Status: no progress)
Paint 6 miniatures unrelated to current projects. (Jan Status: no progress)
Paint 365 miniatures this year. (Jan Status: 45/365)

Gaming

Play 40 different games. (Jan Status: 9/40)
Play a new (to me) skirmish game. (Jan Status: no progress)
Play 3 non-D&D Roleplaying games (Jan Status: no progress)

Writing

Complete 12 book/game/media reviews. (Jan Status: no progress)
Release 3 titles on DriveThruRPG. (Jan Status: 1/3)

Painting

The month began with some more Frostgrave minis. Having finished a cultist warband in January, I finished up a soldier warband early in February:

These turned out alright. I prefer the cultist warband, as I’m happier with the colour scheme I used for them. In terms of resolutions, I’ve technically completed two warbands, completing the goal of painting two starting forces. The thing is, that wasn’t really the intent of that resolution and I actually want forces for two different games. As such, I’m not counting this as complete. Still, now I can do intro games, and that’s 22 lovely, painted miniatures!

Project-wise, I haven’t done much else. I’ve been working on some other, non-hobby-related things that have eaten up a fair bit of time, but I’m hoping to get back on the horse. Got some Daemons I want to finish, some Gitz, and other bits and bobs. I did finish some Gitz, though:

As Battle for Skull Pass minis, they’ve been in the pile of shame for over a decade! They also bring me to 25 painted minis for the month. Add this to last month’s 45 and we’re at 70, maintaining a small lead on my goal of one miniature per day for the year.

I’ve also primed a whole bunch of minis recently. This includes skirmish forces, Warhammer minis, and some random stuff.

Gaming

I also added another version of Ticket to Ride, but I’m not counting that as a different game. You’ll notice, however, that two of the games listed for February are actually non-D&D roleplaying games! Two! That’s great. I had a lot of fun with both games, too.

Writing

Blogging continues apace, but I’ve not really done any full and proper reviews. I’d hoped to have done a couple by this point, but I’m not forcing it.

In terms of my DriveThruRPG-related resolution, I followed up January’s release of Bio Hacker with the release of Outlandsknecht in February. I think I’m going to aim to put out one item a month. A march release will see me complete this resolution, but I don’t intend to stop there.

So, then, where does that leave us overall?
