Resolutions 2023: March Roundup

It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them. I intend to review my progress monthly towards each of the resolutions. Welcome, then, to our roundup for March 2023. Let’s start with a reminder of the resolutions and where we were at the end of February:

Painting

The month began with another Gitz character. This time, it was an old Goblin King miniature from Avatars of War:

A week later, I finished up the first 20 of my 80 Stabbas. I would go on, later in the month and following a slight detour via a trio of monsters, to also paint the remaining 60 miniatures:

Up until this month, I had painted a total of 70 miniatures. This means that the Stabbas I painted this month were more numerous than the entirety of my painting so far this year.

Between the first 20 and the remainder of the Stabbas being finished, I completed three monsters. The first was a proxy that I picked up a while back to represent the Krondspine:

There wasn’t all that much to this one, but I enjoyed it and it looks pretty good. I’m not using the Kronspine all that much, but this is a cool mini, so it’s all good.

Next up was a Colossal Squig miniature that I printed up on my Elegoo Saturn:

It was a long print, but I was happy with how it came out. There were some slightly flattened/misshapen details, but they’re not all that noticeable. The bit I enjoyed most was the wee Squig Herder. He’s an old metal miniature that I’ve had for a long time. I have named him Clive. I chose this as his name because, upon any cursory inspection, he is clearly a Clive.

The third monster was a Troggoth King. I considered printing one off at Dankhold size to use as a Troggboss. I ended up going for the Aleguzzler size instead:

I can’t say I’m delighted with this. I don’t really like the skin. It’s too light, I think. It needs to be broken up a bit. The other bits of the model look great, though. I’m particularly happy with the cloak. I still might do a smaller version to use as a Troggboss. We’ll see.

I also managed to squeeze in a 40K model, with The Nightbringer joining the ranks of my long-neglected Necrons:

As I mentioned in the post, I’m not super happy with how he turned out, but he does look a lot better in person, where it’s clear that the purple is metallic, than he does in these pictures.

Total: 85

Gaming

Here’s a reminder of the games I had played at least once already this year:

  1. Ticket to Ride (Europe & Nordic)
  2. Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
  3. One Night Ultimate Werewolf
  4. Dungeons & Dragons
  5. Star Wars: Rebellion
  6. Galaxy Trucker
  7. Century: Golem Edition
  8. Root
  9. Age of War
  10. Malifaux
  11. Call of Cthulhu
  12. Warhammer 40,000
  13. Blitzkrieg
  14. Cyberpunk Red

I’ve added a handful of other games to the list this month:

  1. Avatar Legends
  2. Twilight Struggle
  3. Quadropolis
  4. Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition

There wasn’t all that much variety this month. I didn’t make it to as many club nights as I normally do. At club, I found myself playing more Root, more Age of Sigmar, and more D&D. However, by playing Avatar (a PbtA game), I found myself playing my third non-D&D RPG of the year. That completes a resolution! It was also a lot of fun and I am looking forward to continuing. I should probably watch an episode or two of Avatar before then…

Writing

Blogging continues apace, but I’ve still not really done any full and proper reviews. That said, looking at my Game of the Month posts, those are reviews. I’ve decided to count them and approach them more directly as reviews going forward.

In terms of my DriveThruRPG-related resolution, I’ve not done much either.

So, then, where does that leave us overall?
