13th Age is a tabletop role-playing game designed by Rob Heinsoo (of 4th edition D&D fame) and Jonathan Tweet (known for 3rd edition D&D) and published by Pelgrane Press in 2013. It is set in a high-fantasy world and features a unique combination of classic RPG mechanics with more modern storytelling techniques.
In the 13th Age, players take on the roles of adventurers in a world filled with powerful wizards, fierce dragons, and other dangerous creatures. The game uses a D20 system for task resolution, but it also includes a unique mechanic called the “icon system” which allows players to create relationships with powerful NPCs known as icons. These icons can then be used to influence the story and provide bonuses to various actions.
Character creation in the 13th Age is flexible and encourages players to create unique and interesting characters. The game also features a range of classes, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. The most fun I’ve had with 13th Age was when playing as a Chaos Mage. These mages harness the fickle and random powers of raw, chaotic magic. They can access a huge number of spells, but don’t necessarily know what they’re going to cast before they act, and what the unintended consequences might be. Fantastic, chaotic fun!
The 13th Age RPG is designed to be easy to learn for new players while still providing depth and complexity for experienced gamers. It emphasizes storytelling, improvisation, and player creativity, and encourages players to work together to create an engaging and exciting game world.
All in all, it’s good.

And Humble Bundle are offering it up to us. Let’s take a look!
As has become the norm for Humble Bundle, the bundle construction is awful and the core rules that you require in order to actually play the game are in the top, most expensive tier. That basically renders the earlier tiers pretty much worthless to the new player. Well, technically the Quickstart rules are in the lowest tier, but this is actually something you can get for free anyway, so I’m not giving credit there. With that in mind, I will skip the lower tiers and just look at the top tier, which is set at a price of £14.67, and which gets you 28 items:

Most of the range is in here, it seems. Obviously, the core book is the most important part of the nundle, but for the meagre price, the whole bundle is an absolute steal. There’s also a ton of really good community content for 13th Age, with the possibility of converting other D20 resources for use with the system. Yeah, this is a good deal that opens up a really good game.
