It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases The Lion – The Lion is the primarch and progenitor of the mysterious Dark Angels chapter of the Adeptus Astartes (Spess Mureens). I dunno, it’s 40K ‘Lore’ so it’s likely all changed in the past week. He was asleep inside the flying fortress monastery which is also one the remaining chunks of their shattered home planet? It’s not meant to be taken seriously, and that’s alright.

Ultimately he is a big dude in power armour. As that, he excels. I love this mini. It’s better than Guilliman’s, which I actually quite like, too. Like Guilliman, the standard, exposed head option is not good. Well, that’s not true. The Lion’s bare head is very good, and way better than Guilliman’s. What I should say is that it’s not as good as the other options. There’s a large winged helmet that looks alright, but the winners for me are the hooded options. I think Dark Angels and hooded robes go together really well, so the hooded head and hooded helm options both look great.

Stronghold Games releases Foundations expansion for Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition – Ares Expedition is a great game. It’s a game that I did not trust at first. I thought it would be a dumbed-down version of Terraforming Mars that would not prove as satisfying as the original game. I was wrong, and it entered my top 50 games of 2022 by taking the number 2 slot! That’s a bloody strong endorsement from me. And hey, here’s an expansion:

First and foremost, this expansion allow for six players to participate in the game. There’s also a pair of additional scoreboards, adding additional elemnents like a larger score track or an infrastructure metric. There are, of course, new projects cards as well, largely to interact with this new metric.

MORK BOLL released on DriveThruRPG – Mork Boll is a fantasy football game based on Forbidden Psalm, which is in turn based upon Mork Borg. We like Mork Borg here. We also like fantasy football games, so this is very much a promising combination!

I covered the game in more detail in a previous Kickstarter-Watch post, back when the projects was being crowd funded.

Easier Solo Game Journals guidebook released on DriveThruRPG – Santorini is a nice game. It’s not too complication, but it can be competitive. There’s not all that much to it, but it’s pretty in its simplicity. Now, an enhanced edition is coming out alongside an interesting and transformative expansion.

The new edition is really cool with a mix of visual and quality-of-life improvements. The expansion is really cool, though. It just fundamentally changes what the game actually is. I discussed it in more detail in this week’s Kickstarter-Watch post.
Renegade launches preorders for Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5E – Well, hey, more 5th edition World of Darkness games! I really enoyed the current edition of Vampire, so it’s cool to see Werewolf be given an update as well:

Werewolf has never been my favourite WoD game. I much prefer Mage and Changeling, as well as Vampire. That said, it’s still great to see this newest edition of Werewolf: the Apocalypse. I hope they do a lot with the Pentex corporation. I really enjoyed them in previous editions.
Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
First Lances for BattleTech @ A Tabletop Gamer’s Diary – Battletech is never a property that has particularly interested me, but I’m always amazed by the devotion it inspire in others. The recent interation of the miniatures game has been particularly popular. This is a nicely painted starter set for the game. Good job!
Top Three AOS Lists for the Neapolis GT @ Woehammer – Destruction: Grandest Alliance! It’s fantastic to see an event dominated by the forces of Destruction. All three lists look a lot of fun, too.
Friday Night Shots – My Take on Game Storage Solutions @ Dude! Take Your Turn! – Oh, I am very familiar with boxes full of wee baggies. This is a good article, looking at a number of box inserts. I just find that they are pretty expensive for what they are, but there are games in my collection that would definitely benefit from a wee bit of organisation.
Dragon Quest – RPG or Boardgame? @ Movimento RPG – Dragon Quest was my first bigger, non-mass-market board game, and my first exposure to Dungeons & Dragons. I love reading folks’ thought on the game, even if I need Google to translate it from Portuguese.
How To Make A Custom Mini for Henry Jennings in Blood & Plunder @ Blood & Pigment – This is a very detailed post with some background on Henry Jennings and some instructions for a kitbash. I love that this is a real deep dive, and an incredibly focused, detailed article. Fantastic!

Since my last 5 on Friday, here’s what’s appeared on NoRerolls:
- I shared some pictures of our club’s stall at a model show.
- I finished up ol’ Festus for my Maggotkin.
- A Santorini-themed Kickstarter-Watch.
- The results of a recent club painting contest.
- Some thoughts on a homebrew ‘Rolling with Emphasis‘ rule for 5E
- A Throwback Thursday about choosing an RPG for a group.
I feel I’ve not done all that much painting this month. I’d only finished three minis, which isn’t great for my resolution to finish 365 minis this year! In all seriousness, I’m getting a wee bit antsy. I’ve got a few things on the slate. First of all, I’ve got the Genestealer Cults to crack on with, then about 80 Shootas and 6 Sneaky Snufflers for the Gloomspite Gitz. I’ve also got 4 Mournfang Riders that I started a while back.
It’s the same as ever; it’s just sitting and starting. Once I’m doing it, I love it.
Catch y’all soon!

Thanks for linking to my article!
Inserts can be expensive sometimes, but they are so worth it if you find yourself playing the game a lot.
Also, I have a friend who Kickstarted all three Terraforming Mars: Ares Expeditions expansions, so I hope that I get a chance to play them this weekend.
