It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them. I intend to review my progress monthly towards each of the resolutions. Welcome, then, to our roundup for April 2023. Let’s start with a reminder of the resolutions and where we were at the end of March:

- Paint a Warhammer Underworlds Warband. (Mar Status: no progress)

Painting
I was away for a chunk of this month, but I did take some paint and models with me. I didn’t get as much finished as last time I was away (and painted most of a Squig army), but I did get a couple of things finished. One of these was a Great Mawpot:

This was quite fun to paint. Simple, chilled, and without many bits that were tricky or fiddly.
I then did a test mini for my long-threatened Genestealer Cults. I started with an iconward, because I have a few spare copies of this mini. I went with a distinctly Irn Bru-themed colour scheme:

This was a joy to paint. The mini is lovely, the colours are bright and bold. It’s everything I want from this army. It has me enthused.
My next mini was painted up in anticipation of an event. In the end, I didn’t need him, and I just took my Gitz, but I feel good for having gotten him done. I speak, of course, of Festus:

He was a bit fliddlier than the previous two minis, but I enjoyed painting him and I’m pretty happy with how he came out. Good stuff!
Finally, for the event I attended at the weekend, I painted up 6 Sneaky Snufflers:

I’m not going to call them a joy to paint, because they were not. The cages of shrooms on their backs were an absolute pain to paint. They turned out okay, but this proved pretty tricky and rather frustrating!
And that’s all the painting I got to this month. I did get a bit of building done, putting together the start of the GSC:

They look great! I don’t know when they’ll be painted, but I’m on the path!
Total: 9
Gaming
Here’s a reminder of the games I had played at least once already this year:
- Ticket to Ride
- Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
- One Night Ultimate Werewolf
- Dungeons & Dragons
- Star Wars: Rebellion
- Galaxy Trucker
- Century: Golem Edition
- Root
- Age of War
- Malifaux
- Call of Cthulhu
- Warhammer 40,000
- Blitzkrieg
- Cyberpunk Red
- Avatar Legends RPG
- Twilight Struggle
- Quadropolis
- Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition
Here are the games I’m adding this month:
- New York Zoo
- King of Tokyo
- Quirkle
- Clank! Catacombs
- King of New York
- Tiny Towns
As with last month, I missed quite a few club nights. Still, I got play quite a few games, partially due to an open day at our local games group. I played some King of New York there, as well as Tiny Towns. This was actually my first ever game of Tiny Towns and I loved it. It was great. My wife played as well, and I think we’re going to pick it up. Clank! Catacombs was also new to me and it was really good, though I don’t know if it’s different enough from Clank! to warrant a purchase. Everything else was something I’d played before, but was playing for the first time this year.
Writing
I completed a review of the website, Pile of Potential. This has been sitting in my drafts since sometime last year, so I was happy to get it finished up and posted.
In terms of my DriveThruRPG-related resolution, there’s been no progress. Actually, it’s worst than that; I went back and looked again at RY_PO Man and it’s genuinely terrible. I’m scrapping that.
So, then, where does that leave us overall?
