StoryBundle: To the Stars Adventure SF

Kevin J. Anderson is a legend of Sci-fi. I was first introduced to him via the Jedi Academy trilogy of novels that were part of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. I loved this trilogy, and I also adored the followup novel, Darksaber.

I was also a big fan of Resurrection, Inc. and his X-Files novels. I’ve not read much from him in probably around 15 years, but this StoryBundle caught my attention because he is the guest curator. Given that his sci-fi always chimed with me, I reckon I can trust his judgement.

As usual, the bundle is split into two tiers. The first will set you back a mere $5 and will get you the following 4 items:

  • Bright Moment and Others by Daniel Marcus
  • A World Adrift by Douglas A. Van Belle
  • The Jupiter Game by Todd McCaffrey
  • All Human Things by Dave Creek

Increase your pledge to $20 and you get everything in the previous tier, plus the following items:

  • Writers of the Future: Volume 39 edited by Jody Lynn Nye and Dean Wesley Smith
  • The Aeronaut by Bryan Young
  • Space Cowboy by Justin Stanchfield
  • War of Omission by Kevin O’Donnell, Jr.
  • An Alien Light by Nancy Kress
  • Opening Wonders by Rajnar Vajra
  • The Falling Star by Scott J. Young
  • The Complete Robot Empire – Books 1-6 by Kevin Partner
  • Dekker’s Dozen by Christopher D. Schmitz

First of all, it’s unusual for one of StoryBundle’s curated bundles to not have at least one book by the curator. But hey, here we are. I suppose Anderson doesn’t really need the publicity at this point.

As I’ve pointed out a few times recently, I’m a sucker for alternative history, so The Aeronaut’s alt-WW1 setting is potentially quite appealing. It sounds very pulpy and i would be surprised if there were not a very healthy dose of swashbuckling.

Other titles that grabbed my interest include another pulpy title in the form of Space Cowboy, and the mercenary adventure of Dekker’s Dozen. If you’re on the look out for some new sci-fi and are looking to discover new authors highlighted by a legend of the genre, this might just be worth a punt.
