5 on Friday 22/09/23

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases the second Dawnbringers campaign group, Reign of the Brute – I’m pretty excited for this book. I like this sort of campaign book or series where lots of armies get little gifts and updates, as opposed to the normal cycle of Battletomes where one army at a time gets a lot. It’s nice.

This book also happens to give stuff to armies that I love. The Truggs get a king, the Gargants get a new focus, and the Ironjawz get bigger piggers. Fantastic!

Onyx Path releases a new M20 sourcebook, Lore of the Traditions –  I’m a little concerned about Onyx Path’s release schedule for World of Darkness and Chronicles of Darkness books seemingly drying up. That said, and putting those worries aside, let’s enjoy what’s still coming out!

This looks to be a pretty jam-packed supplement, full of content for all of the Traditions, updating them and expanding them out. At the moment, it’s just a PDF release, but the print-on-demand offering is coming soon.

Games Workshop releases Trugg, The Troggoth King – To go along with the book I’ve highlighted above, GW are also releasing Trugg, the Troggoth King. This model is just gorgeous:

At the moment, he comes in a box alongside two packs of Rockgut Troggoths. Now, do I need more Rockguts? Probably not. Have I ordered the box anyway? Of course.

Mongoose taking preorders for new edition of Paranoia – I love Paranoia. Paranoia has endured for me through various editions and it’s always a blast to play. The newest edition looks to be a bit of a departure from the previous Mongoose edition, but I’m really keen to pick it up and really delve in.

I’m really keen to pick up the physical book, but the PDF is already available. It does suffer a little bit (like Traveller) from slightly overpriced Mongoose PDFs, but I expect to get a lot of use out of this book!

Games Workshop releases new Tuskboss on Maw-Grunta –  It’s a GW-heavy week, isn’t it? This is actually the best week of preorders for me in a long time. There are so many beautiful, tempting things up for order. Among the various new Ironjawz are the new Maw-Gruntas. Big pigs!

There are a few variants of the piggy and I love the heft of it. It looks great and it feels like a great addition to the range, both in terms of the model and the rules. I’ve not preordered this one, as I’m looking to do Trugg first, and I’m expanding the Gargants. I’ll get around to him, though!

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Dawnbringer Armies of Renown: Reviewed and Rated @ Plastic Craic This is a good rundown of the main feature of the new Dawnbringers Book. This book is a gift for Destruction players; the handsomest of all Age of Sigmar players. Worth a read if you’re interested in the new book.

Best 3 Games with…Small Boxes! @ The Players’ Aid I’ve only played one of these games. Blitzkrieg was a lot of fun and managed to be both quick and surprisingly frenetic. For such a small game, there was a lot going on. I’ll need to take a look at the other two titles on this list.

Blitz Bowl: The Nobility Team @ Wyrd Stones & Tackle Zones Oh, these look great! The red and gold is really nice and the white of the feathers is satisfyingly striking. Good job!

Ironjawz Pigs – 60% Complete! @ A Tabletop Gamer’s Diary How timely! I do hope to see some big pigs added to this army. it looks great already and just needs that bit of reinforcement!

C23 Citadel Oldhammer Ogre Warrior Priest Redux (Jes Goodwin, 1985) @ Azazel’s Bitz Box I hadn’t seen this model before. It’s an Oldhammer mini, but not one of the go-to classics. It’s cool to see something that is as once very old, but also new to me. Good job on the painting as well; particularly the kilt.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:

This week I still need to do more Flesh-Eaters, but I’m starting to doubt that I can muster the effort. It’s getting serious!

Catch y’all soon!
