Humble Bundle: Cyberpunk Red (& Classic)

Cyberpunk Red is a tabletop roleplaying game that serves as a sequel to the classic Cyberpunk 2020. Developed by R. Talsorian Games, Cyberpunk Red was released in November 2020. The game is set in the dystopian future of the Cyberpunk universe, where mega-corporations wield immense power, governments have collapsed, and high-tech cybernetics coexist with urban decay. The setting was further popularised by the video game, Cyberpunk 2077.

‘Humble Bundle currently has a Cyberpunk bundle on the go. Its got a mix of the newer Cyberpunk Red materials, and some books from the classic Cyberpunk 2020 line. ’Humble Bundle currently has a Cyberpunk bundle on the go. It’s got a mix of the newer Cyberpunk Red materials, and some books from the classic Cyberpunk 2020 line.

As usual, given the amazing value of Humble Bundle’s RPG offerings, I’m going to look at the bundle as a whole, rather than breaking it down into tiers. A payment of just £14.13 will get you these 23 items:

I’m going to focus mostly on Cyberpunk Red. There’s good material here for the classic Cyberpunk 2020 and, whilst it has a really dedicated fanbase, I feel that anyone who really wants this game already has it. Most people coming to the game fresh will likely go for the newer edition.

That said, you get the classic rulebook, giving you everything you really need to play, along with a bunch of sourcebooks. Most are books about settings, including the classic Night City setting, and sourcebooks for the US, UK, Europe, and the Pacific Rim.

The core book is, of course, the main event here. It has background, rules, character creation options; the works. I finally got Cyberpunk to the table last year and had an absolute blast with it. The system doesn’t feel as smooth to me as games like Vampire or Soulbound, but it’s still really fun.

In addition to the core book, is a bunch of other content. My main complaint is that there are not really any coherent supplements in here. Instead, there are several compilations of smaller pieces of content. The Interface books are a good example of this. I’ve looked at some of these previously. My understanding about these books is that the content is largely stuff that’s been previously released on their website for free, collated for convenience, and with some new content mixed in. If you like everything being together, then this will be a solid purchase, but if you’ve been keeping up with the free content, it may feel a wee bit redundant.

I think, looking at the bundle as a whole, that you’re getting a good deal here. The price tag of £14.13 is fantastic for both the classing and current versions of Cyberpunk. It’s a bit disappointing that the Cyberpunk Red range hasn’t really been developed in interesting ways like the old game was, but this is still a worthwhile bundle that is worth your consideration.

  1. We had a lot of fun with Cyberpunk 2020 back in the days when it felt like it was set in the far future. I think my main annoyance was the hacking mini game meaning that one character had to do their thing completely separately from everyone else.
