I recently shared a link to Woehammer’s post about their then-upcoming (now ongoing) slow grow challenge. I decided to take part! I decided to take part, twice.
I reckoned it would be fun to put together a pair of armies for The Old World. I don’t think there will be much uptake for the game here, so having a pair of armies to run intro games seems the way to go. I’ve been looking at what I can put together and, rather handily, it seems that by completing the challenge, both armies will be pretty close to 1,000 points. One will be at it, whilst the other will be just a little short.
The two armies I decided to go with were Chaos Dwarfs and The Empire. The Empire army would be themed around a crusading force. Both armies would be 3D printed, mostly using STLs from Titan Forge. I’ve already printed off the characters I’ll need for February and June:

Here’s a rundown of what should be done each month:
- February: a character
- March: a core unit of 10+ models
- April: a unit of 5+ missile or cavalry models
- May: a core unit of 10+ models
- June: a character
- July: a special or rare unit
So, a fair chunk, isn’t it? The nice thing is, I could see myself, by the end of the year, maybe even managing to squeeze these out into a pair of full, 2,000 point armies. That would be very cool.
Here’s what I’m thinking about for the Chaos Dwarfs:
- February: Sorcerer-Prophet
- March: 20 Infernal Guard with hand weapons and shields
- April: 10 Infernal Guard with blunderbusses
- May: 10 Hobgoblins
- June: Infernal Seneschal with battle standard
- July: Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher
The bulk of these will come from Titan Forge. They’ve done a few Chaos Dwarfs previously which I can draw on when I expand the army, but the bulk will come form their more recent release from last August:

Fantastic, innit? My core troops will come from here, as will the first two characters, and more. My one complaint is that although there is a fantastic Lammasu here, it doesn’t come with a rider. That’s a pain. I might have to turn to Lost Kingdom for a more usable model.
Speaking of Lost Kingdom, that’s where I’m probably going to find my Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher:

I’d swap out that Orc, though. It’s just not very Warhammer, is it?
As I go through these, it occurs to me that Woehammer is really not helping with my goal of buying/printing fewer miniatures… Damnit.
With a plan in place for the Chaos Dwarfs, what about the Empire?
- February: Lector of Sigmar
- March: 20 Halberdiers
- April: 5 Pistoliers
- May: 10 Crossbowmen
- June: A wizard
- July: 20 Flagellants
Again, these will come mostly from Titan Forge. They did two Scarlet Crusade sets last year from which I will take the majority of the miniatures:

They perhaps looks a little Tilean in places, but I’m okay with that. They have everything I’d be keen to use and some cool alternatives to some minis. I might also take some things, such as the Pistoliers, from the Titan Forge Vampire Hunters:

They’ve got a cool Witch Hunter vibe to them and I might also snatch the nuns from that newer set to build a Mordheim Sisters of Sigmar warband at some point. I’d love to revisit the cursed city at some point… Actually, I could do a Witch Hunters warband from it, too.
So, I’ve got a plan. Is it a good plan? Probably not, but it’s a plan. The biggest units that I’d need to print, prime and paint would be in March, which is a bit of a concern, but if I start printing now then we can probably make it. 40 models, though… I suppose I managed 60 in January.
Ok, let’s go!

Like you I’ve decided to paint two forces up. Something about Old World has its Claws in me this time around.
Really looking forward to seeing your two armies develop over the next year.

Awesome looking models. One day I’ll try to figure out 3d printing again. I look forward to seeing these armies build and evolve over time.
