It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases free short story collection ebook – Freebies! The Black Library continues to put out good books, short stories, and audiobooks. Now, here’s a little sampler:

This is a collection of short stories that you can pick up for free from Games Workshop’s website. it’s not huge, but when else do we get anything free from Games Workshop? Take what you can get.
GMT releases their Prime Minister board game – This is a game that grabbed my attention when it was up on P500. Thematically, and conceptually, I really like the idea of this game. It looks interesting, and it looks fun.

But would I be able to get it to the table? I’m doubtful. There’s an irrational fear of GMT within my gaming group led by a couple of pretty vocal critics who haven’t played much GMT. I admit that there’s a lot of beige in GMT titles, but let’s not pretend they’re not fantastic games.

Mongoose releases a 2024 update to the Traveller Companion – I like that Mongoose has been working through their core Traveller books, updating them. The latest revamp has been for the Traveller Companion:

This is a useful book, full of cool content. There’s a bunch of new and variant rules, alternative combat rules, and encounter tools. The realism rules that are introduced here sound like something I definitely would not want to use, but for which there will definitely be a welcoming audience.

Atomic Mass Games releases Plo Koon set for Shatterpoint – Shatterpoint miniatures continue to be fantastic, gorgeous, and very likely not something I’m ultimately going to buy. This is a lovely set with one fatal flaw…

There’s just no Ewoks! Before recently, I didn’t think this was important. We’ve recently seen several sets that heavily feature Ewoks and they have been the best models I’ve seen for the game. No Ewoks is now always going to be a disappointment. The Ahsoka miniature is great, though!

GMT releases their board game, The Plum Island Horror – Another interesting GMT Games title! Being horror/pulpy-themed rather than historical makes this one stand out amongst GMT’s offerings:

I like when GMT does something different, and it’s especially great to see them doing something pulpy, themey, and quirky. This looks like a lot of fun.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Initial Impressions Video: Mr. President: The American Presidency, 2001-2020 from GMT Games @ The Players’ Aid – Stop it! I don’t want to buy this! Seriously, stop making me want to buy this.
Friday Night Shots – Old VS New? @ Dude! Take Your Turn! – I am a recovering member of the cult of the new and I completely buy into the ways of the “cult of the new to me” as laid out in this post. Healthy outlook, here!
Opinion: You Should Play Your Favorite Warbands (and Tell People About It) @ Spent Glory – This is a healthy outlook, and one I can definitely get behind. Go for what’s fun and cool, rather than just chasing whatever is on the rise at any given time. Solid advice for a good hobby life.
Stormvault by Andy Clark – A Book Review @ Swords & Spectres – I can’t say that I seek out Stormcast-themed books. I think the current batch of AoS books are really important. We’re far enough into the setting now that we should be putting down some good stories that are both building on established lore and building new stuff on which to continue to build. The good rating suggests that we’re on track.
Frostgrave – Dark Alchemy – Scenario 3 @ Minion Vault – I just love these pictures. This terrain is gorgeous. There’s some real effort and love gone into this stuff, and you should go look at it. Beautiful!

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- A review of John Scalzi’s novel, The Collapsing Empire
- A Kickstarter-Watch for a regency era/Sentai mashup RPG
- Some thoughts on building some armies for The Old World
- Some completed space dinos!
- Thinkin’ about derelict places
- A D&D-themed Throwback Thursday
This week I finished up 18 miniatures, keeping me firmly on track towards the overall painting goal and the skirmish painting one.
In terms of purchases, I’ve bought another 2 Dankhold Troggoths. I’ve printed another two Old World characters. In the coming weeks, I expect to print a big batch of minis for The Old World as I continue with the slow grow.
In the coming week, I really need to make some progress on the slow grow stuff. My general for each army needs to be done by the end of the month and it would be good to get a start on the troops.
Painting, purchasing, and printing totals so far this year:
- Purchased: 29 minis
- Printed: 4 minis
- Painted: 80 minis

Thanks for the shoutout! The Cult of the New to Me is the best cult out there 🙂

both ewok sets are fantastic. I don’t even like ewoks as a concept, but the minis are great.
