It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases first General’s Handbook for AoS4 – The General’s Handbook is a staple of Age of Sigmar. Until the first one was released, the game was, to me, largely unplayable. Now, a few editions later, GW are still putting them out as compact rulebooks that include the seasonal rules. Here’s the first one for the new edition:

I don’t need this, because I do have a rulebook and the HB cards from the Skaventide boxed set. That said, I like the form factor of the GHB, so I likely will grab one for that reason. I’m so excited for this edition!

Green Ronin releases Sol System sourcebook for The Expanse – The Expanse is one of my favourite sci-fi book series. It might actually be my favourite. The Expanse is also one of my favourite sci-fi TV shows. It might actually be my favourite. I’ve not tried the RPG yet, though.

This sourcebook fleshes out the details of the Sol System, outlining the planets, factions, and other pertinent information for use in your campaigns. Given that, until quite late in the book and TV series, all of the action takes place in the Sol System, this is a pretty major setting book for the game.

Warlord Games releases Roman Republic division for Hail Caesar Epic Battles – Warlord are putting out a ton of minis for the epic version of Hail Caesar at the moment, and the sets actually seem quite good value for money. This is the smaller-scale version of the game, intended to simulate larger, more sweeping battles. Here’s a Roman set they are releasing:

For around £30, that seems like a good starting point. I’m not sure how much you need for an army to really get into the game, but this seems a nice set. The miniatures are obviously quite small, but look really good for what they are.

Wyrd releases Heartspike set for Malifaux – I really like the aesthetic of the Fae in Malifaux. The twisted woodland theme is gorgeous. It’s a keyword I may well explore this year if certain boxes come back into stock. Heartspike is the latest box for this aesthetic and keyword:

I love that Ithanna mini! The Carnivorous Wyrdwood is a bit goofy and out of place, but Ithanna is gorgeous. There’s a fair bit of synergy between the two, of course, and Ithanna can move some corpse markers around to prompt a bit of healing. Interesting set, this.

Atomic Mass releases Grand Admiral Thrawn (and friends!) for Shatterpoint – Thrawn was an iconic character in the old Star Wars expanded universe and it was great to see him come back in the new canon, both via the Rebels TV show and a new series of books from Timothy Zahn. Now, he’s making his way to Shatterpoint:

The miniature is a simple one, showing Thrawn calm, and standing attentively. This seems appropriate. In addition to Thrawn, there are also a couple of ISB agents and Agent Kallus. Kallus is a really fantastic miniature from the Rebels series and it’s great to see him in here!

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Infinite Gest @ Space-Biff – A Gest of Robin Rood is a game I’ve been watching for some time. This is a very mixed review that picks out some fantastic elements of the game, but also highlights those parts that left the reviewer feeling a bit flat. I think, on balance, I’m still interested in the game, but it’s good to approach it with appropriate expectations.
New Stormcast Eternals Contrast Colour Schemes and Painting Recipes @nVincent Knotley’s Hobby Blog – This is a nice post with some cool schemes for the new Stormcast you’ll have picked up as part of the Skaventide box! My favourites are the yellow, the bone and green, and the white schemes.
REVIEW: The Well of All Fear for Regency Cthulhu @ Taskerland – I liked the regency era setting for Call of Cthulhu, and it’s cool to see more content being developed around it. It’s especially cool when the adventures are as well put-together as this one sounds. I trust this reviewer a lot, and the high praise he has for this adventure is very promising. I really appreciate how a well-written adventure can prompt the writer to reconsider his previous issues with the setting as a whole.
First Fortnight Recap: Spectacular Spearhead Projects Unveiled @ Plastic Craic – This is an initial writeup of where things stand in the Plastic Craic Spearhead challenge. I’m taking part in this, myself. There’s a lot of cool hobbying being done.
The People’s Host @ Rodrigos the Spiral City – I love the thematic models and painting that I keep seeing on this blog. This most recent set are so cool. I love it when irregular forces are actually irregular, which is definitely the case here. The pig-headed fellow is the best of the bunch!

- A completed Necron Technomancer

3 models were added to the painted pile this week! Next week will see at least 20 added as I work through some of the miniatures for the Spearhead challenge.
