Bundle of Holding: Historica Arcanum Crusades

It’s been a wee while since Bundle of Holding had a bundle that really interested me. This latest offering features Historica Arcanum, a game of which I had not heard. This grabbed my interest, largely due to the theming and the beautiful covers.

Historica Arcanum is a series of historically-inspired sourcebooks to help you run alternate history campaigns. Metis Creative, the company behind the series, have a whole bunch of them, including a very interesting-looking Victorian-Era Istanbul setting, a renaissance setting, and others. They all run on the 5E ruleset, making them accessible to the huge number of players using those rules.

This is not a large bundle, consisting of just a pair of books (with some associated digital extras) and a soundtrack, but it still represents a decent saving. You’re getting $40 worth of content for just $12.95. Here are the full contents of the bundle:

This looks really fun. The crusades represent a fascinating point in history, and one that, whilst horrifically violent, is ripe for storytelling. This set helps to give a toolbox and framework for collaborative storytelling in the era, and that is utterly tempting.

The bundle represents good value, even if it’s not the sort of insane value we’ve seen in the recent Starfinder and Star Trek Adventures Humble Bundles; but then Bundles of Holding do tend to be smaller. I’d say this falls nicely into the impulse purchase bracket, and could be an interesting change of pace for any group using the 5E rules, but wanting to branch out a little.
