Heading into the Top 50

I’ve been travelling this weekend, and there’s been a fair bit of sitting in a car.  I’ve been using much of this time to finalise the list for this year’s Top 50 games list, and I have some thoughts.

First, it’s difficult to factor in frequency of play. There are games I love, and which I want to place highly on the list even though I may not have played this year, or even last year.  Do I really like it all that much if I can’t muster the enthusiasm to get it to the table?

And what about the difference between RPGs and board games? They’re such different experiences that it might not really be fair to compare them.

I really like putting together the top 50 lost, and it’s always interesting to see how things come out. Sometimes, games make their way higher onto the lost than I might have expected one I actually lay things out and compare them. I like that.

I think I’m going to be aiming to do the top 50 posts weekly on Tuesdays. I look the routine of then coming out each week, giving me a little bit of time to edit them.

These are some of my favourite posts of the year, and I’m really looking forward to sharing them.

  1. Looking forward to reading them! You can love a game and it just doesn’t come out because of your game group, or it doesn’t fit with your player count, or whatever. If I let “not playing it” determine whether I included something, 1960 would not have been on my list at all.
