Resolutions 2024: November Roundup

It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them.  I intend to review my progress monthly toward each of the resolutions.  Welcome, then, to our roundup for November 2024.  Let’s start with a reminder of the resolutions and where we got to in October

So, how did November go?

Painting

Nada. Nothing. Zip.

The pain that was previously in other joints has spread to my hands. Couple this with being pretty damn busy when I didn’t have pain, and I just got nothing done.

Our totals for the month are, of course:

Bought: 0 minis
Printed: 0 minis
Painted: 0 minis

This means that my totals for the year so far are:

Purchased: 121 minis
Printed: 116 minis
Painted: 288 minis

I’m feeling a bit despondent, truth be told. It’s not about the resolutions, which are a bit of a lost cause now, but more about the implications going forward.

Gaming

November has been more successful in terms of gaming, at least. I got my second game of Arcs in and even managed to score a victory over my two opponents. It was a tight thing, though!

I think I’m coming around a bit on this game. It didn’t really stick the landing for me during that first game, but this time it made a lot more sense to me. I enjoyed it from the start, and I was a lot more aggressive than I normally would be in this sort of game. I’m naturally a bit of a turtler, but I made some poor decisions early on and the only remedy was to start raiding opponents.

I also tried River Valley Glassworks the other week, and I really enjoyed that. it was absolutely fantastic.

It’s such a simple game, and a little bit frustrating as well, but I had such a blast with it. A couple folk were asking me for some ideas for Christmas and I think I might mention this little game!

Here’s the list of games that I had played already this year, before the start of November:

  1. Century: Golem Edition
  2. Architects of the West Kingdom
  3. Sushi Go!
  4. Warhammer Underworlds
  5. Age of Sigmar: Soulbound
  6. Traveller
  7. Dungeons & Dragons
  8. Santorini
  9. King of Tokyo
  10. Ticket to Ride
  11. Twilight Struggle
  12. Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
  13. Ark Nova
  14. Arcane Academy
  15. Robot Quest Arena
  16. UNO
  17. Root
  18. Apiary
  19. Dixit
  20. In the Hall of the Mountain King
  21. Quadropolis
  22. 1960: The Making of the President
  23. Everdell
  24. Age of Fantasy
  25. Call of Cthulhu
  26. Raiders of the North Sea
  27. Scout
  28. Warhammer 40,000
  29. Kluster
  30. Rummy
  31. Lorcana
  32. Flotsam Fight
  33. Twilight Struggle Red Sea: Conflict in the Horn of Africa
  34. Magic: the Gathering (Commander)
  35. Eclipse
  36. Arcs
  37. Nucleum
  38. Villainous
  39. Isle of Skye
  40. Explorers of Navoria

I added four new games to the list in November:

  1. Doomlings
  2. Kingdom Builder
  3. Love Letter
  4. River Valley Glassworks

I also got in a fair few games of Lorcana and Commander, and I continue to really love both of these games. I’m putting together a fun deck for wife for Christmas. It’s her who got me into Lorcana and although I’ve built an Evade deck, she doesn’t have anything custom yet. I’ve really enjoyed Commander, especially with my frogs. I like using something I built. I’ve got two more decks in mind…

I’m so lucky to have a fantastic, and growing, group with which to play this game!

My game of the month was Love Letter.

Writing

I’ve managed to maintain my goal of posting a blog post per day. I’m happy to be doing well on that front.  Reviews were a bit thinner on the ground this month, what with work being hectic. Here are some highlights:

I’d like to push the reviews a bit more again in the new year, but for now, I’m keeping a good momentum. I’m really enjoying

No progress on the DTRPG stuff. That’s not going to happen this year.
