I love Orcs. I even love Orruks, despite the silly, copyrightable name change. I love all sort of Greenskins. The Ironjawz are a particular favourite, and I’ve used them on and off for a while now in Age of Sigmar. I bought my Ironjawz from a friend who was offloading his, and I do not regret it. I had a lot of fun in early third edition with them, before I really focused in on the Gitz and Gargants. It helped that they were beautifully painted, too!
Now that 4th edition is here, I’m looking to return to them. What excitement I felt upon seeing the imminent release of the new Orruk battletome! What joy!

Yeah, it’s a bit underwhelming. Leafing through the Orruk book makes me really appreciate just how good the Slaves to Darkness book is.
But that’s okay. Not every army needs to be a powerhouse, and nobody plays destruction armies to win. I mean, come on.
So, then, I was delighted when the original painter of my army agreed to paint up a bunch of new minis! Excite! Hype! But what to go with?
Well, I already have some Brutes, the older Ardboyz, characters, Gore Gruntas, and the like. What I don’t have is any of the newer stuff. The perfect box for that was probably this year’s Christmas box…

20 Ardboyz, 6 of the newer Brutes, and a big pig? I’ll take two! And a boss for them! And terrain, spells, and a named character…
All of this will give me the option to build in a number of different ways. I can go Brute-heavy, Ardboyz spam, or a mix. I could maybe use some more pigs in future, but they can wait for a while.
I’m excited to get these guys back to the table. The boxes arrived on Saturday, and I’m hoping to build them over the next few weeks.

Have you ever read the Orcs novels by Stan Nicholls? I really enjoed the series
