Resolutions 2025: February Roundup

It’s one thing to set resolutions, and quite another to hold oneself to them.  I intend to review my progress monthly toward each of the resolutions.  Welcome, then, to our roundup for February 2025.  Let’s start with a reminder of where we got to last month:

Now, let’s take a look at what sort of progress was made in February.

February Roundup: Painting

The pain continues, but with periods where I’m not too bad. With that now the care, I’ve managed to paint up a 3D-printed Wizard’s Tower terrain piece. You can see it, below:

Last month, I opened two tallies. One was for miniatures I would be painting and one for miniatures I bought for others to paint. Namely, these were a whole bunch of Ironjawz. I’ve now decided just to keep it simple and not count those miniatures at all. They’ll be painted, and I won’t be taking the credit. It seems like they don’t fit.

What I have bought since then was the Gitmob box:

So that’s 9 purchased miniatures, putting this year’s totals to:

  • Purchased: 9
  • Painted: 1

February Roundup: Gaming

With Commander and Lorcana featuring more heavily in my rotation at the moment, and a goal to get more miniature games played, I’ve reduced this year’s target to 30 games. up to the beginning of February, I had played the following games this year:

  1. Magic: the Gathering
  2. Disney Lorcana
  3. Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
  4. Apiary
  5. Architects of the West Kingdom
  6. 7 Wonders
  7. Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition

This month, I’ve added a pair of games to the list:

  1. Raiders of the North Sea
  2. Paranoia: The Uncooperative Board Game

It’s always great to play Raiders of the North Sea. It’s such a satisfying worker placement game that’s always met well at the table. It’s not a super-complex game, but it does take a fair bit of forward planning and, when those plans inevitably fall through, some quick-thinking adaptation.

In addition to this game, I’ve also played a bunch of Magic, Lorcana, River Valley Glassworks, and Apiary this month. I also got in another game of Age of Sigmar; this time with my Ogors.

The list was… bad, but it did really pop off. It was less of a list and more of whatever I had sitting in a box. The monsters hit hard, though. The dice were with me, as my opponent didn’t score many ward saves, and I rolled high for almost every roll to determine how many attacks my Stonehorns got. Everything that could go well for the Ogors did go well for the Ogors. A decisive, early double turn pretty much secured the game.

February Roundup: Writing

with 7 reviews in January, we’re following up with a further 5 in February. I’m cheating a little by counting yesterday’s Game of the Month review, but it was intended as a February post. Here were the reviews:

  1. A review of Absolute Power
  2. Creator Spotlight on Highlands Miniatures
  3. A review of the Mutant Menace Commander deck
  4. A review of Fern Brady’s Netflix special, Autistic Bikini Queen
  5. February’s Game of the Month

Of course, there are many other posts that go up throughout the month. Some highlights from this month include:

Yeah, not a bad month!
