5 on Friday 25/04/25

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a new Lucius the Eternal miniature – As a character, I really like Lucius. I liked him when he first came out a fair few editions ago, and loved his original miniature. His role in the Horus Heresy novels further cemented him as one of my favourites. Here’s his latest mini:

I love this a lot. You’ve still got the sword, whip, and scarred face. I love the addition of the chemical injectors on his back. Anything that makes models look more at home in a Fabius Bile-themed army is a big plus for me! Yeah, this is cool.

Nocturne releases Jazz Age supplement for Vampire: the Masquerade, 20th anniversary edition – I like the various different time setting for World of Darkness. Wild West Werewolf and Victorian Age Vampire are excellent, and I really adore New Wave Requiem, which is a sourcebook for playing Vampire: the Requiem in the 80s. This time, it’s the age of jazz:

This is a sourcebook covering the interwar period of jazz, prohibition, organised crime, and Hollywood glamour. What a time for kindred to stalk the streets of America’s cities! I’d love to play a Toreador or Brujah in this time period.

Preorders available for MTG’s Spider-Man set – Oh, hey, more Magic. They’re releasing a lot, aren’t they? Honestly, I’m less enthused for the Spider-Man set than I have been for others, but there will no doubt be some cool, interesting cards. I’m just not a huge fan of the theme.

It looks to be a full set, and actually won’t come with Commander decks. We’re looking at the usual spread of Play and Collector’s Boosters, along with the pictured bundle set. There have been a few previews, and I’d expect to see a bit more as we hurtle towards the September release date.

Stonemaier to release a new edition of Tokaido – Tokaido is a pretty well-established and popular board game that’s been around since 2012. It’s recently been acquired by the fine folks at Stonemaier Games, who are now putting out their new edition:

The core game doesn’t look to have changed in this new edition. What has changed is production quality. Stonemaier is bringing this in line their usual level of excellence. There will also be a solo mode, some clarifying text added to cards, and a reorganised rulebook.

Free League releases Keepers of the Elven-Rings for The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying – The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying is the 5E-based LotR RPG from Free League. The latest book released for this line is an Elf-themed supplement:

The book features a number of new landmarks and locations, characters and adversaries, and details of Sauron’s plots against the Elves. There’s a particular focus on specific Elven realms, like Lórien, Rivendell and Lindon, and the characters who call these lands their home.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Daily miniature: wizard in black @ Scent of a Gamer Hey, I actually have this guy sitting next to me:

I dug him out a while back to see if he’d fit in with my Empire army for The Old World, but I think he might be a tad small. Oh well. The version in this blog post looks great! The nice, bright colours against the black robes pop rather nicely.

Men-At-Arms (Yellow) from Classic HeroQuest (Wizards of Morcar) @ DarthTom’s Gaming Some more classic miniatures! These are some really gorgeous minis and the paintjobs more than do justice to the nice, chunky, older sculpts. My favourite is definitely the halberdier!

Happy Easter, folks! @ Spalanz The Star Wars deckbuilding game does look good, and posts like this make it all the more tempting. It’s just never been quite at the top of the list when I go to buy something, y’know?

Blackpowder @ mcmattila minis Blackpowder’s Buccaneers are a great set, and I really enjoyed painting mine. This guy looks fab, and I especially love the striped trousers and the big, rusty sword.

Top Three AoS Lists for Kingdom in Flames – Chapter II @ Woehammer I love the Troggoth list in here. I might give it a go. I definitely want to get the lads back to the table soon. The Chaos list also looks pretty easy to build out if I’m going to revisit my Slaves to Darkness at some point.

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:

I’ve finished one miniature this week. It was Leveticus, Pariah of Blood for Malifaux. I’ll be posting it this weekend, and have added it to the totals, below:

Purchased: 11
Painted: 23

Catch you next week!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! The Star Wars deckbuilding game is definitely worth a look, for sure! And, solo mode for Tokaido? I kinda wish I hadn’t read that – it’s such a beautiful game… sigh..!
