Now, let’s take a look at what sort of progress was made in April.
April Roundup: Painting
It’s not been a bad old month. I’ve got few things finished, which feels good, and I’m finally feeling like I’m making some progress on things. First up, we’ve got 6 Crypt Horrors, done in a knightly fashion:

These look really good! I’m delighted with how they turned out, and I’m glad I went with individual colours on the horses and shields, rather than with a uniform scheme, as all of the colours really pop! These, along with last month’s miniatures, have also put my Flesh-Eaters firmly into a usable state. I’ve got more I want to add, but I’m ticking off an army project being done.
To go along with the FEC, I did an armies on parade board:

For our club’s armies on parade contest, I filled it with models from my noble FEC:

I’m really happy with how this turned out, as I never really spent much time on terrain before. It also feels good to really display and army with which I am utterly delighted.
I then finished off this Leveticus, Pariah of Blood miniature for Malifaux:

He was actually a lot of fun to paint. He’s also the last miniature I needed to put together for my Riders crew. As such, I’ve ticked off one of the two Malifaux crews I said I’d do.
Here are the updated totals for this month:
- Purchased: 11
- Painted: 23
As I type this, I’m working on some more Malifaux miniatures; this time, Tiri and her crew. Here are some pics of my progress from the weekend:
I do reckon these will be the next things I finish. There’s one bigger model in there that’s a bit intimidating, but I’m sure I’ll manage!
April Roundup: Gaming
With Commander and Lorcana featuring more heavily in my rotation at the moment, and a goal to get more miniature games played, I’ve reduced this year’s target to 30 games. Up to the beginning of April, I had played the following games this year:
- Magic: the Gathering
- Disney Lorcana
- Warhammer: Age of Sigmar
- Apiary
- Architects of the West Kingdom
- 7 Wonders
- Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition
- Raiders of the North Sea
- Paranoia: The Uncooperative Board Game
- Unstable Unicorns
- Viscounts of the West Kingdom
- Wayfarers of the South Tigris
- Eclipse: Second Dawn for the Galaxy
- Clank! In! Space!
- Clank!
- Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress
This month, I’ve added a few games to the list:
- Tiny Towns
- Isle of Skye
- Risk
- River Valley Glassworks
- Shipwrights of the North Sea: Redux
Playing Tiny Towns again was… interesting. This is a game that I like, but which infuriates me. I genuinely get angry playing it. I get so frustrated. And it’s not even that I get angry with my opponents; I get angry at myself. The game makes me feel stupid. Even when I win!
I played twice. I won a game, and I lost a game. I was angry throughout. I loved it.
I also got to play Isle of Skye again. It’s a game that doesn’t make me angry. I also won! Like, by a good amount, too!
I really doubled down on animals and lighthouses, which led to a firm victory. Good times!
When visiting family, my dad wanted to look b ack to hid childhood and play some Risk. We had got him the 60th anniversary edition of the game a couple of years back, so he finally broke it out and we got it to the table.
The game is fine, but it’s obviously quite dated and clunky. We had a good time, though. He really enjoyed revisiting the game and it was nice to be part of that.
I’m quite excited about a couple of games coming up next month, including Necromunda and Call of Cthulhu.
April Roundup: Writing
This month saw five reviews added to the site:
- A review of the Notts Hobbies Drybrushing Kit
- A review of the Sultai Arisen Commander deck
- A review of John Scalzi’s latest novel, When the Moon Hits Your Eye
- A review of the film, Conclave
- April’s Game of the Month
I also liked putting these posts together:
