It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dmystates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop a new Kill Team set, Typhon – Another gorgeous Kill Team box! Those Tyranids are particularly fantastic…

Much like with Warcry, I really don’t like that this game seems to be pushed forward by one big box FOMO release after another. Much like with Warcry, the boxes themselves are also really cool! Such lovely minis in here, and some cool scatter terrain.

Avantris Entertainment releases an updated edition of their 5E horror roleplaying setting, The Crooked Moon on DTRPG – The Crooked Moon was originally released in 2014, with an update in 2024 that made its way to DriveThruRPG this month:

There’s something about folk horror that hits me just right. I like seeing the cultural roots of what has scared people through time. It’s not a cheap PDF by any means, but at over 600 pages, with a 350-page adventure, a bestiary, new magic items, and a bunch of cool subclasses and tweaked species, this is a weighty tome.

Wizards of the Coast to release Edge of Eternities set for Magic: The Gathering – Another Magic set, this time a spacey, sci-fi one. I do enjoy a bit of sci-fi in my fantasy!

I think we’re going to get some really cool art in this set, and I’m keen to see the treatment the theme gets. These highly thematic sets can very much go either way. I feel that Bloomburrow and Duskmourn were both really cool, whilst I wasn’t such a big fan of Aetherdrift. For Bloomburrow, it was the theme, whilst I loved some of the cool cards in Duskmourn, but didn’t care for the vehicle focus in Aetherdrift. I can’t wait to see where they go with this set. I just hope it doesn’t get lost as nothing but a filler set between Final Fantasy and Spider-Man.

Corvus Belli to release Orc Hunters for Warcrow – Corvus Belli makes some of the prettiest miniatures out there. Warcrow, like Infinity is turning out be be a truly gorgeous game. I particularly love the style they’ve chosen for their Orcs:

Not a million miles away from Warcraft one, are they? Beautiful! My only hesitation with these is entirely personal, and in relation to my local context; I bought a bunch of Infinity and just couldn’t get it to the table. As much as I love the miniatures for Stormcrow, I worry it would be the same.

China Clipper supplement for Call of Cthulhu released on DTRPG – I like big supplements for Call of Cthulhu, but I also like these smaller, flavourful books that cover something really specific:

This is a book of adventure hooks and contextual information. What respectable pulp adventure would take place without a flying boat? They’re such iconic vehicles of the time, and it’s cool to see them take centre stage here.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Learning Wargames – Scenery Techniques – Book Review @ Kuribo’s Painting – A good review of what looks to be a useful book. Games Workshop used to do some really good terrain building books back in the day, and this looks to be a modern take on those.
Commander decklist challenge: Teeg’s Shard Thrower @ The Scent of a Gamer – Teeg is a green and white legendary creature/commander that really feels like it should be blue! It’s got that sort of semi-oppressive control feeling to it. The deck looks fun, though!
Black and Blue @ STALKER7 – A great game writeup with a bunch of really cool pictures. I do think pictures make this sort of post, and it’s great to see really cool miniatures and terrain in action.
Best 3 Games with…Submarines! @ The Players’ Aid – What I love about these lists is that I rarely know any of the games listed, and it’s like a big ol’ voyage of discovery. The game in position 1 looks really appealing to me!
Daily Commander: Xantcha, Sleeper Agent @ J.M. Casual Blog – A really fun card, and an interesting prospect as commander. I’ve considered putting Xantcha into my 99 before, but I’ve never really given much thought to her as a commander. Worth a look!
