5 on Friday 02/01/26

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Days of Wonder to release Rocky Roads, an expansion for Heat – Rocky Roads is the next big expansion for Heat: Pedal to the Metal, adding two new racing tracks that push drivers into loose gravel, spinning corners, and high‑risk manoeuvres.

Set for release in early 2026, the expansion keeps the core game’s fast, tactical pacing while introducing fresh terrain challenges and new ways to test your engine management.

Ganesha Games releases an expanded edition of Four Against Darkness – The Four Against Darkness: Expanded Edition revises and enlarges the beloved solo dungeon‑delving game, adding new classes, spells, foes, equipment, and environments while keeping its pencil‑and‑paper charm intact.

This edition includes all the core tables, two short adventures, and full compatibility with existing supplements, making it the most complete and flexible version yet for anyone exploring 4AD’s procedural dungeons.

Asmodee to release a children’s edition of Dixit – Dixit: Kids adapts the classic Dixit game into a fully cooperative experience, where players work together to match illustrations to the moods of a cast of charming rabbit characters.

Designed for younger players, it keeps the dreamlike Dixit art style while simplifying the gameplay into an emotional‑intuition puzzle about delivering invitations to a birthday party before the week ends.

Preorders are up for Magic the Gathering’s Lorwyn Eclipsed set – Lorwyn Eclipsed is Magic: The Gathering’s long‑awaited return to the beloved Lorwyn–Shadowmoor plane, releasing in January 2026. The set revisits the whimsical yet eerie world of changelings, fae, and elves, now transformed under a new eclipse‑driven storyline.

Packed with hybrid mechanics, typal synergies, and returning keywords like Changeling, Evoke, Persist, and Transform, Lorwyn Eclipsed blends nostalgia with fresh design. Iconic characters such as Ashling and Sygg reappear in new forms, while showcase treatments and Commander decks expand the set’s reach across formats. For players who loved the original’s mix of light and dark, this expansion promises both a celebration of Lorwyn’s past and a bold new chapter for its future.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Forward March – Part 7 – Traitor Guard Russ @ Imperial Rebel Ork Oh, this is cool! Traitor Guard is such a fun concept, and you can really just do what you want in spiking-up some vehicles and whatnot. Good job on this one.

Notable Books Read in 2025 @ Dude! Take Your Turn! Some interesting picks in here. I’ve read two of them: When the Moon Hits Your Eye and The Mercy of Gods. Of the others, I’d be particularly keen to read the Coda books and All Systems Red.

Thanks a Bunch: Battlescroll Dec ’25, Destro Perspective @ Plastic Craic A really interesting run through of the most recent battlescroll and how it affects the best Grand Alliance. Destruction continues to feel somewhat neglected, outside of the Gitz.

Saga Scots and the End of the Year @ Wargaming Workshop More great Saga minis; this time representing my own fine people! The sheer number of miniatures this author managed to paint this year is also pretty staggering!

A Castle, A Journal – Review: Colostle @ Burn After Running Burn After Running’s review of Colostle digs into how this solo TTRPG turns loose card prompts and journaling into a dreamlike exploration of a world‑sized castle. The post explores its open‑ended narrative style, simple but tense combat, evocative art, and how its surreal encounters can spark ideas for group RPGs as much as solo play.

  1. The Murderbot book is so good! Going to be reading the next one soon, I think.

Would be interesting to see how the Coda books are for somebody not steeped in the Trek novel-verse.
