5 on Friday 01/05/26

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

Releases & Previews

Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:

Games Workshop releases a new Commissar Yarrick miniature – I have strong memories, during my early years in the hobby, of the third war for Armageddon. It was such a great event, and I don’t think that Games Workshop have done a global 40K campaign to match it. I think the only thing they’ve done that was better was the Storm of Chaos campaign in Warhammer Fantasy. Now, we’re seeing the return of the hero of Armageddon:

As with all of GW’s best mini updates, the core of the model is still the same as the old, but brought up to date. He’s more dynamic, detailed, chunky, and gorgeous. Such a glow-up!

Modiphius releases Species Sourcebook for Star Trek Adventures – The Species Sourcebook is a galaxy‑spanning trove of alien life for Star Trek Adventures, offering sixty new species templates, more than a hundred talents, and guidance for playing everything from androids and holograms to liberated Borg and mirror‑universe counterparts. It’s a deep, flexible toolkit for crews that want real diversity on the bridge.

Packed with lore, traits, abilities, and rules for creating your own species, this 132‑page guide expands character options across every department and campaign style. Whether you’re populating a starship, a station, or an entire quadrant, it’s the definitive resource for bringing the wider Star Trek galaxy to your table.

Wizkids releases Dungeons & Dragons: Builders of Baldur’s Gate – Builders of Baldur’s Gate turns the city into a competitive, three‑dimensional network‑builder where families expand businesses across nine districts, curry favour with the Council of Four, Flaming Fist, and Thieves’ Guild, and drop influence cubes into keeps, gates, and watchtowers as the city rises around them. It’s a sharp, tactical city‑builder with real table presence.

Monster incursions force uneasy alliances while every crisis becomes a chance to advance your own agenda, making each game a blend of clever placement, faction politics, and opportunistic timing. With chunky minis, district‑spanning networks, and constant pressure from the outer walls, it’s Baldur’s Gate at its most ambitious and cutthroat.

R. Talsorian Games releases Night City 2045 sourcebook for Cyberpunk Red – Night City 2045 is a colossal 300‑page deep dive into Cyberpunk’s definitive setting, mapping out every district, faction, gang, service, and power structure that keeps the city burning. With history, law, logistics, and over 600 keyed locations, it’s the most complete portrait of the Time of the Red’s premier sprawl.

Packed with 99 stat blocks, 44 gangs, 24 districts, and gorgeous maps, this sourcebook gives GMs everything they need to run street‑level chaos, corporate intrigue, or full‑scale urban warfare. It’s Night City at its densest, dirtiest, and most alive; a must‑have for any Cyberpunk table.

Mantic to release a Banished faction pack for Halo Flashpoint – I don’t feel a huge desire to buy into the Halo miniatures game, but I do like the minis. The Spartans look great. Now, there’s a new faction pack for the Banished coming out:

This box contains a bunch of new miniatures, all of which look great, and accompanying accessories. These include a board/mat, some cardboard terrain, some dice, and assorted cards and tokens.

Blog Posts & Articles

The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

Painted Spider-Ham @ The Bovine Overlord What a fun miniature! Lovely painting, too. I really like the somewhat sillier MCP miniatures, as they’re often bursting with personality.

Vantage single player review @ Scent of a Gamer A warm, enthusiastic look at Vantage’s solo mode, celebrating its Fighting‑Fantasy‑style paragraph crawling, open‑world exploration, and clever action system. The review digs into why this crash‑landed sci‑fi adventure is so absorbing to play alone.

Shadow of the Horned Rat: Morgan Bernhardt @ Woehammer I’m enjoying seeing this nostalgia-born project as it continues. I’m guessing we’ll be seeing some cavalry soon…

Big Castle Baby @ Deathzap Chaos should be strange. There should be an unsettling or uncanny nature to it. These projects really tick that box, and then some. Fantastic stuff!

Trench Crusade Prussian Stosstruppen and Sniper Priests Unboxing and Review @ Sprues & Brews These look great! I liked painting my own Prussians and these look like a great next step to expand the warband… not that I’m ever going to get any Trench Crusade to the table!
