As daily posts continue on NoRerolls, I aim for thrice-weekly posts on my other blog, Weather In My Ribs. The initial goal for the blog was to try and stay really positive in what I write, but I feel that I’ve failed a little on that front. This is largely because I often write about politics or whatever is in the news. This is reliably negative fodder.
Still, let’s take a look at some recent posts that I looked upon favourably, eh?
First up were some thoughts on Andy Burnham’s Number 10 of the “North.” Number 10 is not the seat of the executive for England; it’s the office of the UK prime minister. To open a “northern” office barelt 40% of the way of the country is just insulting to Scotland.
I then turned my attention from national issues to local ones, with a lament for the managed decline of our local community. Caithness is suffering as our main local industry and source of jobs, Dounreay, is being decommissioned.
In a lighter note, LinkedIn is a hotbed of sociopaths! Seriously. I can understand why people maintain a profile on the platform for networking reasons, but those who actively use it as social media, rather than as just an employment profile, are often unhinged.
Sticking with the chronically online, I had some thoughts on the older men who seem to dote on AI girl thirst traps on Instagram. It’s genuinely creepy to watch. I suppose the saving grace is that the girl isn’t real, but still…
Being aware that I’d been a bit negative lately, I went back to some whimsy. I like whimsy. I suppose I imagine a nice, Ghibli-esque scene and try to put it into words.
Finally, let’s end on a sad note. The story of Noah Woods is a tragic one, but one that I am honestly surprised is not more common. In discussing the story with friends, I discovered one is the parent of an autistic child who is often drawn to water. I can’t imagine the fear he must feel, and the sadness that such a story will bring to him.
I’m enjoying putting thoughts out on this site. I’m not sure how sustainable it’s going to be, but it’s fun.
