StoryBundle: Novel Writing Tools 2025

StoryBundle’s The 2025 Novel Writing Tools Bundle is a curated collection of practical, craft-forward books chosen to help writers at every stage build stronger novels and steadier careers. The bundle, curated this year by Kevin J. Anderson, collects works on craft, pacing, worldbuilding, editing, mindset, and the business of writing into a single pay-what-you-want package.

I’m all in favour of anything put together by this particular curator. Kevin J. Anderson is a legend of Sci-fi. I was first introduced to him via the Jedi Academy trilogy of novels that were part of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. I loved this trilogy, and I also adored the follow-up novel, Darksaber.

I was also a big fan of Resurrection, Inc. and his X-Files novels. I’ve not read much from him in probably around 15 years, but this StoryBundle caught my attention because he is the guest curator. Given that his sci-fi always chimed with me, I reckon I can trust his judgement.

The bundle is a baker’s dozen of volumes assembled to cover the full arc of a writer’s workload: idea generation, drafting, tightening prose, pacing, market strategy, and professional development. It includes titles aimed at removing common stylistic clutter, sharpening structural sense, and developing career habits that scale beyond a single book. One StoryBundle exclusive in this lineup is Sam Knight’s Filtering Out the Filter Words, a focused guide on identifying and handling filler and filter words in fiction.

Here are a few of the titles that jump out at me:

  • Filtering Out the Filter Words by Sam Knight: a short, precise guide to spotting and removing debris that weakens prose; useful for revisions and line-editing.
  • Essoe’s Guides to Writing: Pacing by Joshua Essoe: practical strategies to sculpt narrative rhythm so scenes and chapters hold reader attention from first page to last.
  • World Building for Novices by Jon R Osborne: primer-level systems for creating believable settings without drowning story momentum.

Each title is chosen to deliver an immediately usable technique or mindset shift: exercises you can apply in a draft session, checklists for revision, or frameworks to convert craft work into reliable habits.

To my mind, this bundle suits a range of audiences. Aspiring novelists may want a compact, curated curriculum to move from idea to publishable draft. Mid-career authors may be looking to shore up weak spots, such as pacing, filtering, or career strategy. Finally, teachers may enjoy the DRM-free copies and modular essays and exercises to assign in classes or tutorial groups.

The bundle is available now on StoryBundle’s site and follows the site’s tiered unlock model: pay-what-you-want to receive base books, and meet threshold amounts to unlock the full set. Some books are exclusive to the bundle, which raises its value for collectors and course-builders. The sale is time-limited, so it’s worthwhile to pick the tier that gives you the most useful mix for your current projects.
