5 on Friday

It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for a little digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week.  Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.

They are in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:

7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting Warhammer @ Allanson Accords – Some really good advice to new players of Warhammer 40,000Age of Sigmar or any tabletop miniatures game.  Points 1, 6 and 7 are definitely the most important points on the list.  I think this would have been useful to me once upon a time, and maybe I would own a bit less in the way of random crap and more completed armies.  But then, I quite like my random crap…

Smash Up! Munchkin & The Big Geeky Box @ On Sean’s TableSmash Up is a game with which I have a bit of a love/hate relationship.  Sometimes I really like it, but then I won’t seek it out again for months.  Generally, it’s a game I play with kids, and it works really well with these groups.  It’s really nice though to see someone who really loves the game build up a kickass collection of expansions and cards.  I don’t really have a big game that I have absolutely everything for.  Been tempted with Dominion, but there’s so much now and so many others things come along looking pretty.  Good article, lots of lovely pics.

Painting: Just Doing One Model @ The Dad Blog – Just a nice post with some nice pics of some nice painting.  The chosen Mercs from Warmachine are a pair of models that I’ve always really loved, so it’s nice to see them painted up so beautifully.  I sympathise a lot with the author’s attitude to painting, too!

Shadespire – Review @ The Giant Brain – Having played Shadespire for the first time last night, the review caught my eye.  The review has some decent pics, with a really nice one at the top.  It gives a good overview of the game, and I agree with the author’s thoughts on value for money and with their overall view of the title.  I am really looking forward to getting a few more games of this under my belt and articles like this help me get really enthused for it!

The Independents: Micro Games @ Cannibal Halfling Gaming – I’ve never tried any of the micro games described in this posts, but I’ve long been aware of Lasers and Feelings.  It’s a game I’ve considered using with some groups who are new to RPGs, but I’ve not gotten around to actually getting it to the table.  This post describes this game, as well as a few more really interesting-sounding titles.  Nice to have attention drawn to an area of the hobby that is rarely given a place of prominence.

On No Rerolls this week, we’ve continued this year’s top 50 list!  Here’s a link to Part 2.  Watch out for part 3 on Sunday!

See you next week.
