I really like fanmade games. They tend to be proper labours of love. Among the fan games I’ve looked at, I really enjoyed a 5E version of World of Warcraft (and the accompanying bestiary), an updated edition of Changeling: The Dreaming, and this fan-made PBTA-based Borderlands game.
This Borderlands one was a lot of fun. It’s a franchise that I love. Not all Borderlands titles were created equal, of course. Nothing has beaten Borderlands 2 for me, though there hasn’t been a game that I’ve disliked. Thematically, there’s already some overlap between it and the standard edition of Apocalypse World.
The biggest thing this book has going for it is theming. There’s some customisation, of course, but theme is the big thing. The most important set of rules that are new to this game are the gun creation rules. It seems so appropriate that gun are randomly generated, just like they are in the video game.
