Throwback Thursday: Remembering Shadow War

Necromunda is a good game. It’s great that Games Workshop decided to bring it back after it spent a good few years out of print. Before they brought the game back, Games Workshop released another game; Shadow War: Armageddon. This was a skirmish game set in the 41st millennium that had a lot of potential.

I liked the idea of this game and mused about how one might use it as an opportunity to get creative with a small 40K force. I suppose that the game was always doomed as there was little point in it continuing once both Kill Team and Necromunda were established.

I’d say that the latest edition of Kill Team actually took a step backward in customisability and fostering creativity in putting together a force, but you can still do a lot of conversion or use some cool alternative minis.

Either way, you can read my thoughts on Shadow War: Armageddon by clicking the link below:

  1. Shadow War was definitely interesting when it came out, and the launch box sold out within minutes. I suppose, in retrospect, the game was more a launch of the Sector Mechanicus line. I played it a couple of times, and I don’t remember it being a bad game as such, but like you said in the original article, it was just too easily overshadowed by almost everything that came out over the next 12 months or so!
