It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Forgeworld releases Ash Wastes Herder for Necromunda – Forgeworld continues their fantastic support of the boxed games that Games Workshop puts out. Most of this tends to be Blood Bowl and Necromunda, with some great BB star players and some really cool Necromunda characters. This is one such character:

Honestly, it’s not my favourite thing they’ve put out, but it’s still pretty cool. I don’t care hugely for the Arthromite Duneskuttler, but the Herder looks pretty great.
Kobold Press releases Cities & Towns Campaign Builder supplement for 5E D&D – Kobold Press produces consistently excellent material for 5E players and DMs. I adore their campaign books, player guides, and bestiaries. Actually, those bestiaries are particularly fantastic. I suppose I appreciate a resource that gives you stuff you can use to develop your own campaigns. That leads us nicely into this book:

The book delves into some aspects of urban planning and gives you a character sheet of sorts for your city. This is something I really like in the Dresden Files RPG, so I’m always glad to see good ideas spreading. It also has guilds, NPCs, and other resources to incorporate into your own settings, along with a ton of other content.

3D-printable Cyberpunk Night Market up on Kickstarter – Cheap and cheerful 3D models are the focus of this Kickstarter campaign. This time it’s all about terrain!

Specifically it’s all about cyberpunk terrain, in the form of a marketplace. I don’t think these are the most interesting or impressive models, but they look fine and this campaign delivers great value for money. I took a closer look in this week’s Kickstarter-Watch post.
Mognoose releases their new Shield Maidens RPG on DTRPG – I do love Mongoose publishing. I have a lot of time for the Traveller and Paranoia lines. To see them publishing a new game is really exciting, especially when it appears to be their own IP, unlike many of their other current lines.

Shield Maidens promises a mix of cyberpunk and Vikings, along with proud warrior-women. Oh, yes, please! This looks great! Like, truly fantastic. I don’t think there’s enough of a preview there, at least not one that’s obvious. Given that the game has a bespoke system, I’d like to know a little more before committing to buying it. I’m sold on the world and theme. I need a little more info on gameplay.

Lone Shark Games launches Kickstarter campaign for a new edition of Lords of Vegas – Lords of Vegas is a city-building game based in, as you’ll have already surmised, Las Vegas. It’s been very popular since its release 10 years ago, and now Lone Shark Games has a Kickstarter campaign going for a new edition:

Not only is this an updated version of the game, but it also plays up to 6 folk, unlike the previous game. That core set capped at 4. There are also some expansions in here. Worth a wee look, at least!
Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Painted Hand Ninjas @ The Bovine Overlord – I quite like the units for MCP that feature a few models on one base. It’s a cool thing, and the poses tend to be pretty cool. There are nicely painted, too. I like that the smoke is grey, not taking away or distracting from the ninjas as the focus of the piece. Good work!
Playing The Apocalypse – being a better player in PBTA games @ Burn After Running – Some solid advice here. I’ve still not played any PBTA games, despite having a real interest in them. As such, I’ll be circulating this article to my fellow players before our upcoming game of Avatar!
Turnip Wars @ A Loft Full of Lead – Damnit, I need to start on my Turnip28 stuff. Reading posts like this, and looking at the pictures therein, it’s just great. Thanks for sharing.
Top Three AOS Lists for Colonial Carnage @ Woehammer – I used a list quite similar to this Gloomspite one in a game this week. Oh, my! It was strong. It was fun. Woehammer continues to share these lists, and it’s great to see the trends of what armies heavily feature in these posts changing over time as army books and GHBs shift the ground under our feet.
Old Projects, New Perspectives @ Tales from the Moorlands – Oh, these are cool! Some truly beautiful, yet dark and atmospheric items here. Both the mini and the terrain looks really fantastic.

Since my last 5 on Friday I’ve posted this on NoRerolls:
- A Kickstarter-Watch on some Cyberpunk terrain.
- Some finished characters from the old Skull Pass set.
- Another finished Gloomspite hero.
- My Game of the Month for February.
- February’s resolutions roundup and reflection.
- A Throwback Thursday about Studio Ghibli.
And that’s us for now. In the coming days, I’m intending to finish up some more Gitz and maybe write a wee bit about RPGs.
Catch ya’ll next week!

Thanks for the share! Surprised you didn’t go for Ed’s AI Top 3 instead of Colonial Carnage 😉
