We headed south to visit family on the 14th of July. Just before leaving, I finished up writing a new Fiasco playset. As with my previous playset, I based this one on a sitcom. This time, it’s the classic Scottish sitcom, Still Game. It’s a sitcome avout the misadventures of a pair of pensioners in Glasgow. Coincidentally, Glasgow is the city on which I was born. Here’s the image that is to form the basis of the cover:

The sitcom is an absolute classic, and it’s quintessentially Scottish. What I love about putting these playsets together is rewatching big chunks of a show, and finding bits and pieces to use.
For the uninitiated, here’s an episode of the show:
The title I went with was Mayhem in Maryhill. The eagle-eyed among you will no doubt notice that this is not a direct reference to Still Game, which is set in Craiglang. The thing is, Craiglang isnae actually a place. It was made up for the show, but it was based on the Maryhill area of Glasgow where most of the filming took place for external shots. So in the process of ‘genericising’ the playset, it seemed the obvious way to go.
I’m hoping to have this out in early August. Once I’m home at the end of July, it’s just a bit of formatting that will need done.

Excellent! I love a bit of Still Game but I bet that all of this will be baffling to your legions of non-Scottish fans 🙂
