It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
Games Workshop releases Vampire team for Blood Bowl – Vampires were a late addition to the classic Blood Bowl lineup (previous to the 2016 reboot) and the models weren’t around for that long. Whilst I’m not surprised that they have also been quite a late addition to the modern Blood Bowl lineup, I’m delighted to see them getting some love now:

I love how different these models are from the (also fantastic) Age of Sigmar miniatures. Blood Bowl is, and should be, rooted firmly in the Old World, and it’s cool to see these miniatures embody both the romantic and the monstrous. Great minis that fit the setting well!

Wyatt Trull releases Curse of Strahd Companion on DMs Guild – Having recently spoken about villains in RPGS, this Strahd-themed offering grabbed my attention:

At 440 pages, this is a sizeable tome, full of Ravenloft-themed content. It takes a chapter-by-chapter approach, offering advice on how to run the Curse of Strahd campaign. It also has an additional module for your players to enjoy. As a big ran of Strahd and the Ravenloft setting, this is really interesting.

Wyrd Games releases It’s Alive set for Malifaux – These alt sculpts from Wyrd are always really cool. Whilst not my favourite of the bunch, it does seem very fitting to have some Frankenstein-themed Resurrectionists:

When I saw the set, I assumed it would be an alt McMourning. I’m not familiar with Von Schtook. The set is spot-on, though. It captures the theme of Frankenstein whilst still being very Malifaux. I hope they keep making these fun, wee sets.

Corvus Belli releases Bakunin Uberfallkommandos for Infinity – The Nomad are the most visually quirky of Infinity’s factions and I love how varied and cool their models are. This latest offering is fantastic.

I think my favourite is probably the cat girl in the back left. The post is good, and the whip gives some dynamism. If I thought I could get them to the table, these would be damn tempting…
Adamant Entertainment releases their Far West RPG on DTRPG – A a movie genre, I do love me some wuxia. It’s graceful, beautiful, high-drama, and just fun. I love it. So an explicitly wuxia-themed western RPG is a pretty interesting prospect for me.

Using the proven Open D6 system, this looks interesting. The full-price PDF seems a bit ridiculous, but the current reduced price isn’t too bad. I’d be keen to see a few reviews before committing to this one.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Cthulhu: Death May Die – Sergeant Ian Welles & Alex Parker @ Azazel’s Bitz Box – Now, these models look good; this is clear. The models as a whole are not why I am sharing them, though. Look at the socks. You have to admire that sockwork!
Wargame Metrics – A Look Inside the Numbers for Grant’s Wargame Collection – 2023 Edition @ The Players’ Aid – I like posts like this, breaking down collections, looking at what we like, and just chatting about the games we grab and play. An interesting read.
Top Three AOS Lists for the ThunderstrikeGT @ Woehammer – Woehammer sometimes provides a bit of commentary with their top lists. Not always, though. That’s generally fine; we don’t always need commentary and I’ve come to see it as a bit of a bonus. I wish this one had commentary, though. I’d have liked to read Peter’s thoughts on the Kruleboyz lists. It’s great to see 3 Orruk lists in here!
Marvel Crisis Protocol tournament report: My Gang’s Better Than Your Gang 23Sep2023 @ The Bovine Overlord – The game appeals; it really does! Common Ground is a fantastic venue for events and this a a good writeup. I’m heading south for a week sometime in October, so will have to swing by for some inadvisable purchases. Worth a read!
Competitive Listbuilding in Brodd’s Stomp @ Plastic Craic – It’s a listbuilding post from Plastic Craic; of course it’s good. This is expected at this point. I love my Gargants, so it’s great to see more ways to get some use out of them!

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- Some thoughts on roleplaying Zadie Smith novels for some reason, maybe?
- A look at some backburner projects
- A Kickstarter-Watch full of wraith STLs
- Another little Bonesplitterz story
- I painted Trugg!
- A Throwback Thursday looking at Peter Cushing playing Little Wars
This week I am going to chill on worry about the Flesh-Eaters and just whatever. Hobby is fun, not an obligation.
Catch y’all soon!

You’re too kind as always! Good luck with your willpower check to not purchase a load of unnecessary extra toys at Common Ground Games…
