It’s Friday, and here on No Rerolls that means it’s time for an all-new 5 on Friday. We’re going to start with 5 exciting releases for this week before moving on to our usual digest of some of our favourite articles from the past week. Of course, we’re slow readers, so don’t be surprised if there are some articles that are a little older – these are just some of the great articles we happen to have actually read in the past week.
Releases & Previews
Every week there are many games, books, and miniatures released. This will probably be a mix of previews, preorders, and releases, and with release dates being the way they are in this industry, it’s always pretty approximate. Excuses out of the way, here are 5 of the releases that caught our attention this week:
DriveThruRPG running an STL sale – I’m not going to pretend that DriveThruRPG is the first place I go for STLs. That tends to be either Patreon or MyMiniFactory. They do have some good stuff, though. I’ve previously picked up some Star Trek files. Now, they’re running a sale:

Here are some highlights:
- World War Tesla: Starter Set
- Gothic Fantasy Church
- Star Trek TNG bridge crew
- Star Trek TOS bridge crew
There’s loads more in there, but these grabbed my attention.

Osprey taking preorders for When Nightmares Come – When Nightmares Come is the latest set of skirmish rules by Patrick Todoroff. I like his Zona Alfa ruleset, though I’ve yet to really commit to getting it to the table. This latest offering demonstrates a shift in tone:

This feels very narrative-driven, and really embracing of the horror genre. I’m really keen to see these rules when they come out. I’d love to get some more narrative-driven skirmish games to the table.

Food Fight Miniatures currently crowdsourcing on Kickstarter – I’m backing this. It looks awesome. ’Nuff said.

I’ll take a closer look at this campaign over the weekend. I could definitely see these being printed out and painted up for a possible campaign!
The Army Painter taking preorders for a set of Metallics from their new Fanatic paint line – Last time The Army Painter rolled out a new paint range it was… bad. It was mishandled, and then complaints were downplayed. The Speedpaints were just bad. That said, I’ve picked up a few of the Speedpaints 2.0 range and I like them a lot. It’s the metallics I use, and I really like them. Among the releases for this new range, there’s a box of metallics:

I think I’m quite likely to pick this box up as my test of the range. There are a couple of other bright colours that I would like to use, but this seems like a good place to start. I’m hopeful that they’re able to keep their promises in terms of the sort of coverage and pigmentation we should expect.

Atomic Mass Games releases the best Shatterpoint set yet – Ewoks! These are actually really nice miniatures. Lots of personality, cool poses, and nice multi-model basing. Yeah, I like these a lot:

the Leia miniature is also a better, more Leia model than the other one that was revealed, which was her disguised as a bounty hunter as she was in the Jabba’s Palace sequence in Return of the Jedi.

Blog Posts & Articles
The meat of 5 on Friday, the articles are listed in no particular order, so let’s get into some recommendations:
Hobby Contest – Kitbash and Conversions @ Plastic Craic – A cool, upcoming contest from the fantastic Plastic Craic blog. This remains one of my favourite sites, and I really like the community that is growing around it.
Unboxing Video: Mr. President: The American Presidency, 2001-2020 from GMT Games @ The Players’ Aid – A good unboxing video of a game in which I am quite interested. It gives a good idea of the sheer bulk of the whole thing. Hopefully, a play video or review will follow to see if this is going to be my first dip into GMT’s solo offerings.
WFRP Book Review: Tribes and Tribulations @ Professional Casual Network – The current edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is really good, and there have been a ton of really cool supplements. This is a review of a book about Orcs, one of the bestest factions in the setting. I share the disappointment in a lack of playable greenskin rules, but otherwise the book sounds great. I love the Hobgoblins are in here, too!
Painted Ultron Drones @ The Bovine Overlord – I like the multi-based miniatures in the MCP and Shatterpoint lines. These Ultron Drones are a cool example of the concept. The author of this post has painted them up rather spiffily, too! Thanks for sharing!
Slow Grow Challenge 2024 @ Woehammer – I’m keeping this one here from last week to really try and drum up some participation. Come and join in the event. The more the merrier, fam!

There have been a few posts since my last 5 on Friday:
- I gathered my Skaven miniatures into a new gallery
- A review of (and play suggestions for) the classic sitcom, Father Ted
- A Good Society-themed Bundle of Holding
- January’s Game of the Month, Soulbound
- January’s resolutions roundup
- A Throwback Thursday about the previous edition of Malifaux
Well, after getting off to a good start with this year’s painting, I lost steam. It tends to happen if I have a few things on the go at once and then drop down to nothing. I’m now working on a Necron mini and a Stargrave Crew, so we’ll see if things pick back up.
The totals below have not changed since last week, but in the interests of keeping track…
Painting, purchasing and printing totals so far this year:
- Purchased: 27 minis
- Printed: 0 minis
- Painted: 60 minis

They are really long, but the week-long playthroughs by Heavy Cardboard definitely showcase everything about Mr President. They are awesome
